SATA on a reasonably priced dualie ( 2 Views )

1. I'm looking to build/buy a dualie to run my file share server. I'm on a rather limited budget, so I'm looking at something in the realm of 2 pIII's or Xeon's. But I would need something with onboard SATA or that could support a SATA controller card. Firstly, I'm wondering what kind of price range parts might fall in. I'd need the mobo, procs, memory, case, psu, and maybe a boot drive. I would either buy parts and put it together or buy a whole system. Secondly, where would be a good place to look for this stuff. Searching the FS/FT hasn't yielded me much progress, but I'm going to keep looking there for now.

2. For a Dual P3 combo, search on FS/FT boards here and on 2cpu.com
   Get a boot drive, sata controller card, at least 3 identical hard drives, and do a software raid with linux.

3. This or something like it would be ideal. Key features you're looking for:

   • 64-bit, 66 mHz PCI slots, at least two - raid/sata card and ethernet.
   • Other PCI slots for whatever else you want - sound? PVR stuff?
   • Not utterly retarded layout - you can plug the 20-pin into its socket, that kind of thing
   • Onboard video
   • Onboard lan a plus
   • USB, for monitoring UPS. Don't be surprised if the USB support is primitive, though - USB keyboard may not work.
   • Onboard scsi a plus, for a boot disk or whatever.

   So the linked board has most of what you'd want on a dual p3 fileserver. I just bought something on eBay, so I'm not competing with you for this. Otherwise I'd be bidding on it :p
