What connection is needed? ( 1 Views )

Hey all!
I was thinking about hosting like 10 or 12 servers from an office location in Upstate NY (~100 miles north of Albany). I was wondering what connection speed and provider would be suitable for this.
Any responses are greatly appreciated!
Thanks alot!

What type of servers are they? What applications will they run? How much will they be used?

WOW...Sorry, I don't know why I didn't include any of that information!
I was thinking probably 8 servers for hosting websites (Apache/MySQL/Mail/Few other Server applications)
And, 1 or 2 Asterisk PBX servers.....One for the office and one for rent or another project I have in mind.
Usage cannot be determined at this point.

I would look into something like business class cable. It's probably going to be the cheapest for the bandwidth you get.

Do you really think cable will handle all these servers?
Also, the only service provider I can get with cable around here is Time Warner (Road Runner)
Also, I would most likely be one of the few (if anyone) in that area with business class cable.

Upstate NY...you have Optimum Online Business cable up there...the 30meg/2meg package?

I'm unsure. What service provider?

buisness class cable to host websites... ?
i would look into more maybe a fractional T3 or dual / single T1's or something to start, then monitor your usage to see how it goes and if you need more

That's what I was thinking. Is this available to most where cable is available? What are some good service providers for T1 and 3 connections?
Verizon point is less than a mile from the office.

Yup, if you are going to be hosting sites, uptime is important - only way to get that is dedicated lines.

Verizon should offer dedicated lines, and what happens is they run the line to your offices, or to the closest junction, if other buisness are in the area chances are the area is well wired already so it might be a quick job.
Contact large companies in their area and ask who they are using for their services.
otherwise just do some google searches for like "[your city] T1 providers"

There are no BIG businesses in this area.......The biggest was Tops Market but it closed last year. This is almost right across the road and I'm sure they had some type of internet connection there.
