After time passes on my computer (roughly 5 minutes) my CPU fan RPM's decrease until the fan stops spinning. I monitored the RPM's on the Asus Probe program and it showed that the fan starts spinning at about 3,500 rpms and it decreasess. As this happens, the temperature of my CPU rises steadily. At first I thought it was a virus but I also booted up and in the BIOS, the fans speed starts at roughly 3,500 RPM's and decreases until it reaches 0 RPM's. what is goin on here? should i get a new fan & heat sink?

Might be the supply of power to the fan or bad capacitors. Try a different fan header. I have had those go bad.

nvm i got it. i pulled out the CPU fan plug (3 pronged thing) and found that there was an accumulation of dust. i blew it off (sega genesis style) and now its good

If you've got that much dust buildup to impede power flow I think you should invest a few dollars into a can of air and blow out your PSU, graphics and cpu coolers, fans and motherboard. Me thinks your components are suffering needlessly! ;)

I'm going to second the previus suggestion that you blow everything out. stuff will last alot longer. if I dont blow everything out here at work (its an auto shop) then equipment starts dropping like flies after a few months... I cant keep an ink printer longer than a year (thats why I use lazer)

lol you got pwnd by Cruft...I have to blow out and vacuum my system every few months otherwise it starts getting ugly. Now that I have a passive video card I am gonna have to start doing it more often
