Died =( ( 4 Views )

no kitty!
  1. Lost one of my first folders. A P4 2.53ghz :( It died a horrible death and I can't even install another OS on it because of errors.

    On the bright side of things (The wife is going to kill me when she finds out Monday!)

    AMD Tech Tour time in Dallas. I am picking up the Desktop Bundle, The Server bundle and the Server Build bundle. Nothing like adding 2 Opty 165's and a 4000+ to the farm. One of these days I should post new pics of the farm since it's up and going now for the most part. I still have 2x Dual Xeon's and 1 dual opty down. No clue as to why yet and it's pissing me off!

  2. Come on already. If you had those computers up you would have passed me by now :)

    Like, I'd take 4 new FX-62's over 9 P2's that require fresh hamsters inside every month! :)

    How much money is that going to save you each month power wise? I know you don't have hard numbers yet. Just looking for a guestimate.

  12. I've had a death recently too. The laptop i was using to fold my first WU sp far died with only a dozen more frames to go! I'm going to borg a friend's computer soon and then that will be the new beginning of my workforce. The laptop started sparking out of the AC plug, not very safe. :rolleyes: So until i get an old computer up and running sometime my entire folding effort will be off of borgs.

    I pay 13.5 cents a KWH so, .4KW x 24H/day = 9.6KWH/Day
    9.6KWH/Day * 13.5 cents/KWH = 129.6 cents
    129.6 cents/day * 100cents/$ = $1.30/day

    $1.35/day * 365day/yr= $493/yr

    So $493 per year is what it will save me. Or about $1,500 over a 3 year life cycle. My actual goals are to save a bit more than the 400 watts but I am still trying to work out total cost issues. The goal is to reduce my # of computers, refresh my garden, and recapture all my build costs (ignoring time cost analysis) by reduction in electricity bills within a 3 yr period. In my household the electricity bills is more an issue than the money I spend on buying computers so that is an added bonus.

    I pay about $0.14/kWh. It's about $10 per month for each 100W.
