Advice on Xbox mod chip ( 2 Views )

1. Ok, I've come to the conclusion that since I haven't actually used my xbox to play a video game since soul calibur 2 came out, that I'm going to mod it.
   
   I have a couple of questions though:
   
   What would be a good choice for a mod chip? I pretty much want to use my xbox as a htpc sort of deal, like streaming movies and music from my hd, maybe add a larger drive to the xbox to store movies and such.
   
   Do mod chips come with a dashboard or OS?
   
   Could someone point me to an excellent source of online information regarding xbox modding?
   
   Please, don't even start commenting on pirating games. My Xbox has been a dvd player 99.9 percent of it's life. The controllers actually have a thick layer of dust on them where they are stored in the cabinet below the tv. I have zero interest in actually playing games on my xbox lol.

   I like the solderless Xenium ICE chips. I've done regular kits, I've done solderless. I recommend solderless for people not good at soldering. plus, less room for messing up.
   
   Mod chips cannot have a dashboard.
   Think of a dashboard like an OS.
   
   modchips come pre-flashed with a rudementary bios on there, and you need to flash it to another bios to get it to work with your xbox. that's about all I can say and stay legal.

3. a soft mod may be for you, i recently did this to my xbox so i could run xbmc and a couple of emulators. for the price (free) hard to beat. the above post directs you to the website you need. best of luck

4. Totaly go with a softmod. With the 007 save hack and the m2 exploit I can hack a box (anybox) - in under 10 minutes.. Without any compatibility issues at all. Adding the HDD takes a little while though. No risk, or anything.
   
   The only advantage hard-mods have is automatic HDD support. (which is definitely good).
