Will this PSU work in my Setup? ( 2 Views )
-
All right so a previous Ultra X-Connect Burned out on me, and I was thinkin of getting the new version, but im not sure if it meets my ATX 2.0 Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard, and my Asus Vento 3600, any help here?
since its a standard to still have a asus a8N id think it would fit, but can you guys somehow reassure me? 24 pin works for the motherboard, just worried if it'll fit in the case haha)

Unfortunately, "ATX" doesn't really define the "depth" of a power supply. That's why a PCP&C 1kW can be the size of a shoe box and still be "ATX." When it comes to size, only the width and height where it bolts to the back of the case is "standard."
The size of the housing of an X2 is the same size housing as the old X-Connect. Which is a little deeper than some power supplies. But if you had the X-Connect in that case before, there's no reason the X2 wouldn't fit.

do you think 400W (its a 550W psu but its only 72% efficient typically at full load [info from zipzoom])
is enough to power my rig, even in the future when i upgrade to another 6800GT?
i have Athlon 3700+ 939, Asus A8n sli deluxe, 2 gigs RAM dual channel, DVD reader/writer, CD reader/writer? and about 3 or 4 fans

That isn't how the efficency it is talking about works.
Quote:
Efficiency: What percentage of the total energy supplied to the power supply is converted to usable form by the power supply and conveyed to the PC's components. Typical numbers for PC power supplies are 60% to 85%; the other 15% to 40% is wasted as heat. Clearly, the more efficient the power supply, the better! Not only will you save electricity, you will ensure that the power supply runs cooler at the same time, making the supply's components last longer and the system work better overall. At the same time, don't give too much credence to this parameter, especially if you are comparing two units that have similar numbers (and many do.) 71% efficiency vs. 73% efficiency doesn't really translate to much difference in the real world. Efficiency is probably more important for supplies that provide a lot of power, since the percentages equate to larger numbers.

Wow.. Glad Spectre fielded that one 'cause I would've bitchslapped you for that. :p
Take my suggestion w/ a grain of salt because it's tainted with biased but I have an X2 on a DFI board with a pair of 7800GTX and other than the whole PC sounding like a Harrier jump-jet that's about to take off, it runs perfectly fine.
