6800gt AGP to 7600GT PCIe worth it? ( 2 Views )

1. This is the rig ive got right now:
   
   MSI Neo2 Plat (AGP :( )
   AMD64 3000+ (939)
   2 Gig Corsair XMS (4x512)
   eVGA 6800GT (AGP :( )
   2x80 GB in raid0
   
   
   My question is, would I see any substantial boost in performance if I were to upgrade my mobo from AGP to PCIe and get a 7800gt? Newegg's got a deal going right now so i can get the following for $329
   
   
   eVGA 7600gt
   
   Asus A8N-SLI Premium mobo
   
   
   I will mainly be playing BF2, World of Warcraft, Oblivion, DoD:Source, and anything else new thats gonna come out...

   It wouldn't be worth it since the 7600gt is about equal to a x850xt

4. Why not just get an AGP 7800GS, can be had for under $300 at the egg.

Personally im pretty much in the same boat as you, Im running a Skt A rig with a gainward 6800GT and yet im getting a cheap Dfi/opertron combo off other forums. but my main issue was weather it was worth doing it and also would the 7600GT could be enough....apparently it is...http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...1800gto/1.html.
   Also the only other option is to try and find a uber cheap secondhand 7800GT.
   
   There is no point to spend $300 on a agp version of a 7800series card as 1)its a crippled version of its pci-e brother and also 2) theres no point spending that much money on a agp card as its a dead platform.

   Check here in the FS/FT forums you can find a 7800gt for cheap and 99.9% of the time there good as new.

7. i grabbed a 7800gt off the FS/FT for $225 shipped
   
   Next is the MOBO.

   That is an excellent choice. That was the most powerful mobo when the first round of SLi capable mobos came out, it can still hold its own usually beating out most of the competition.
