3800+ causing burning problems? ( 1 Views )

no kitty!
  1. I've been having problems with burning ever since I have built my new 3800+ system. I have tried 2 different burners, a Lite-on and a Sony, and about 3 out of every 5 discs I make are coasters. The ones that do finally get burned, be it an audio CD or data, the data on the disc is sometimes corrupted. That goes for CD and DVD alike. The only error that I keep getting is "Invalid block address" I have the AMD patch installed and it works fine with my other programs, but I was wondering if any one else was having problems with burning after installing the patch. I have used Nero and Roxio but they both end up with the same result. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  2. If I had to guess, I would say the PSU has gone bad, or is just plain a bad unit.

Which make and model do you currently have in there, and what is the amperage of the 12v rail (on lable of PSU)?

  3. PSU is brand new Antec Neo-HE 500w and the burner is on a rail by itself, I have already tried a different rail thinking it might have been an issue. I thought the Lite-on was a bad unit, because whenever it spun up it made a God awful noise. So I was thinking, its not burning, it locks up when it reads CD+R and DVD+R, makes a terrible sound... so it must be dead. I swapped it for my roomates Sony CD/DVD combo drive just for the hell of it and the Lite-on burns like a dream on his, even though it still makes the loud noise, while his burner has the same issue in my comp. It's totally random as well, I can burn 3 good CDs/DVDs in a row and then it will crap out 3-4 coasters...I have also tried different CDs and DVDs to no avail.

  4. I'm having a similar problem on my 4200+ system. I too thought my first burner ( Sony _ rebadged Lite-on) was a junker so I got another I/O Magic ( also a rebadged Lite-on, can't get away from them :) ) and seem to be having the same problems. Nero will do data and ISO discs well enough with the I/OM now but refuses to burn more than 30% of a video dvd. I haven't tried Roxio again yet ( I formatted and re-installed WinXP after having the same problems with second drive) but it also behaved that way when I did use it. I hadn't really attributed it to a dual core problem, as this is my first DVD burner and I wasn't sure whether to blame hardware software or myself. So far the only app I have found that doesn't choke on a video burn is Clonedvd, and it uses are pretty limited.

  5. Well I can safely say that my computer hardly ever runs into problems, could it be possibly video codecs or something?

  7. Even though the psu is new, try a different one.

  8. Also, a second guess would be that there is a bad IDE port, or bad cable it is hooked to.

  9. I also vote for swapping out the IDE cable for a new one. I've had a few go bad on me and cause hell in systems when I couldn't figure out why stuff was erroring/not showing up randomly.

  10. i had 2 burners on my machine and for the longest time neither of them worked. just for shits and grins, i took one out of the machine and *voila!* the remaining burner starts burning CDs again. must have been a conflict between the 2 =P

  11. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm runnin out of CDs lol. I will try the PSU thing, I might have one laying around here somewhere. I changed out the IDE cables and that wasn't the problem it seems.

  12. We seemed to have jumped over the CD quality issue. Are these discs any good? (brand name?)
