Server Room Temperature Monitoring ( 1 Views )
-
I just got word that our a/c unit in our server room is going down Friday afternoon and won't be back up until Sunday afternoon and the building we occupy refuses to provide with a solution in the interim. Right now I'm looking at having to leave the door open for air circulation and camping out in the office for the weekend. Right now there is no way I can get around that but I would like to have atleast some of my weekend if I can.
So my question is, is there any free or semi-free software out there that monitors cpu temperatures and can somehow alert me if the temperature goes above a certain level? I'm aware of the monitoring systems that cost $2k+ but that's a bit overkill for our size and needs at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap solution to accomplish temperature monitoring with alerts? A solution under $400 would be preferable.
Thanks for reading!

Thats an excellent idea. I will run that by my boss and see if he thinks that's a viable solution.
Thanks!

FYI, If you decide you want to look at others, the Google search I did was "ethernet temperature email"

Just to add to the options we use up time devices
Not sure the cost since I don't order them but they work pretty well.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have decided to go with the ethermometer because of it's awesome price and feature set. Being able to get alerted via blackberry when temperatures rise above a certain level and to run independently without interaction with any of my servers is a great thing! Thanks for everyones help. The [H] crew never lets me down when I need help!

Check out the products by IT WatchDogs. We use their weathergoose and it's great. You can even hook a webcam up to it.

I would have just ran to walwart and bought outdoor wirless thermos, they have alarms and everything, supports remote sensors... and placed one in a cabinet :) Cheap and works :)
That ethometer I'm going to look into, looks like a handy tool. I do like the voice calling one.... would be handy.
