The choice is up to you guys ( 3 Views )

no kitty!
  1. I have my MSI 6600GT that has done great for me, but I think I'd like to move onto something bigger and better. Granted I am not one of those users that upgrades every 2 months, for me its like at the year the earliest. Well it's been about a year, and I think a new card would do me good.

Budget: $275 The lower the better.

Here are the three models I am looking at:
    6800GT
    X800's The XL's GTO's -whatever, I don't know em.
    7800GT LOW END CHEAPEST model

Understand I don't want to be able to run every single game on highest settings, but I would like to run things moderately high and get really good framerates. Now if I went for the 7800GT, of course I'd crank em up. Here are the cards I have chosen, explain why or why not I should consider at XXX card.

Take your pick, I have heard great things about the 7800GT's, and I am seriously considering one, but if I can get away with a card around $200 I'd love that. Can someone explain why the X800XL's would/wouldnot be a good card?

  2. 7800 gt is much much faster then any of those cards. X800xl for that price isn't even remotely worth it.

  3. always get the fastest card bro. pick up a used one here on the FS list from an ESTABLISHED trader.

  4. Are you kidding with us? Get the 7800.

    (burce, Belarus)

  5. I say GTO^2, because it's very cheap (price) and performs just under the 7800GT when overclocked as far as I have it.

  6. i was about to post a similar thread but thought i would chime in here

i'm looking at some of these cards as well as my first pci-e card

budget is tight .. under 200 would be very nice...

as far as i see there's really only two options..

    6800gs for 165 = great value

    x800gto2 for 189 = great value

basically they are 6800Ultra and X850XT PE equivalent(sp?)

so everybody knows the 850 is faster than the ultra but the GS comes with SM3 .. think it's worth it...

either card i get will be under water....

i know i know .. same money and get the 7800 bla bla bla

i may just wait till the 7800s come down to $200

    cheers,

    mal

  7. to the OP

if you seriously considering all those cards linked then it's a no brainer .. 7800 all the way and anything else would be foolish if it's in your budget ..

my budget happens to be <200 at the moment sooo.....

  8. 6800GS if you play Quake 4 as much as me...

But I also play Counter-Strike: Source, so I like my ATi card.

  9. not big on CS so i guess 6800gs it is

  10. GT for $264 is a steal.

  12. Get the 7800 not the 6800 OP. The 7800 will last you a year or so. You'll regret the 6800GS when Quake Wars and unreal 2007 come out later this year. What about ES3 Oblivion, and a few other goodies. The really high end games come later this year and a 6800 anything wont give you what you want for those. Unless you play at 1024x768 with low settings. :p

  13. I appreciate all of your feedback, the 7800 must have all of that power.

Yeah, I wanted to point out the MSI card has a rebait bringing it down to $264, which is indeed a deal. I need something that will last.
