Aa/af Doesnt Matter On Fps!! Please Help!! ( 1 Views )

no kitty!
  1. I have an ati radeon x850 pro flashed to XT PE running 540/590 stable (in certain games)

Anyway, I am getting the same fps (30-35 fps) no matter what I do in NFSU2. I turned detail all the way up, 1280X1024 EVERYTHING ON, ALL AA AND AF ON. Still 30-35 fps. I turned everything off 640X480, Still 30-35fps. I don't know wats going on.

    CPU- 3ghz prescott
    mobo- intel d875
    ram- ddr 400 running 2-3-3-6
2X wd raptors not raid for now
and u know about the gpu running with stock fan. Idle 30C, Load 60C Max

**Edit, btw, vertical sync is OFF

  2. Try a res in between like 1024 x 768 cpus become a factor when nothing is turned on

  3. Seems to me you are completely CPU bound in that game. Only way to get higher frames is to get more processing power. I see the same thing in an older game I like to play called Soldier Of Fortune 2.

  4. I have trouble getting more than 40-50 fps with my rig in any of the NFS games. I also get some studdering. So maybe overclock more and see what happens

but its a 3ghz intel. Can that really be cpu bound? I am able to overclock to 3.7ghz but memory at the most relaxed times possible

  6. make sure you dont have the AA/AF settings bound to a certain one globally in the ATI panel...

and it shouldnt be CPU bound that much... and a 3G intel isnt really remarkable or anything, itll still cpu limit things in most games where CPU's commonly become limiting :P or am i confusing people and myself?

What he is saying is that is that your 3.0 is not wonderful but not awful. Yes check you control pannel but something is amiss because a X850 should do better than 30-35 I still say try 1024X768 its a good balence between cpu and gpu balence. I get the same FPS at 1280X1024 as at 640X480 in the need for speeds. I remember trying both with mine and see no diffenernce.

  8. Could it be capped?

  9. Im not trying to thread jack here or anything, but it just makes more sense to ask here instead of making a whole new thread since the issue has been arised. How does running at a 1024x768 res CPU bound a game? Wouldnt having a high end video card and running at a low res like that, give you the options to max everything out? This is the resolution I play at, maybe its why im wondering this.

I dont think it does thats why Im recommending he try it because it splits between the ultra high and ultra low.

Cause CPU bound means that even if you turn up the eye candy or turn it down your CPU can't handle the load either way so your FPS is low.

But at 640X480 with everything off, with a 3ghz intel and a 850xt pe, I SERIOUSLY GET 35fps? THAT IS INSANE! I mean I can see an improvement over my games from my prior 9600xt at max settings, but even when I turn everything down I still get 35ps. And I honestly do not belive that my 3ghz cpu is limiting my fps from going over 35 with and x850xt pe and all settings and efects turned down all the way. This is just bugging me right now. And is it normal for my idle to be 30C and load to be around 60C at max? that is a 30C heat up phase which does sound kinda abnormal, just wondering. I would like to thank you all for your attempt to help.

  13. Do you think I should try overclocking my cpu? It only goes upto 3.4ghz if I keep ram settings at the tightest timmings.
