Wireless signal: How could I get it if... ( 3 Views )

I'm currently at an Air Force base for technical training, and the only internet access available is through some cyber cafe place near the dorm I'm staying at. Some people get some signal strength and are able to use the internet from their rooms, even though it's not fast at all. But in my room, I get no signal at all.
What I'm looking for is a way to get some signal into my room. Is this possible, and what would I need? I'm not too experienced when it comes to wireless, so any help at all would be appreciated.
Keep in mind, we still pay a monthly fee if we want wireless access from the cyber cafe, I wouldn't be stealing anything. If you need any more information, just ask away. And again, thanks for the help beforehand.

have someone with signal put a wireless repeater in their room... it would pickup the existing wireless signal and amplify it. of course, the people who admin the originating signal may not be too happy with you, so check with them first ( ;) )

Your dorm probably consists of mostly concrete walls, which are very good insulation against microwave and RF. A directional antenna might help a little.

helps alot. and buy a powerful router to act as a repeater. Senao makes some pretty powerful ones. The netgear commercial routers are very good quality too.
