Gaming Mouse Recommendations? ( 2 Views )
-
Just looking for a few gaming mouse recommendations. Wired mouse is fine. I have a special need due to a general weakness that affects me, including my hands. Because of this a small, low profile, light-weight mouse is ideal. A bunch of additional buttons doesn't do me a lot of good because anything more than that right and left buttons and the scroll wheel are hard to manipulate.
That said, know of anything that fits the bill? My standard microsoft mouse would be fine except its dpi is low and is more of a blunt tool than a gaming mouse.
Thanks,
Brian

you prolly want to go to a store that has some floor models to try some out
mx518 or copperhead will most likely be what it comes down to if you really want that gaming mouse

I love my MX510.

Low profile, low weight sounds like the definition of the Razer mice to me.

Thanks guys. Looked up Razer and yes, that's exactly the size and profile I need. I'll probably newegg it tonight. Copperhead and Diamondback seem to be identical in size, so just need to check out the rest of the spec and see if the additional cost of the Copperhead is worth it.
Good pointer on test driving as well, but my local CompUSA and BestBuy are pretty limited in selection.
I see many more BF2 sniper kills in my future.

Try out the razer copperhead. I recently bought one and a Razer eXactmat with the wrist pad also. (wrist pad is great, its the memory foam)
Combined, this has been the best 100$ I have ever spent in my opinion.

If you want a Mouse with a laser and want lots of buttons (for web surfing or to assign some gameplay keys to them) then teh Logitech Mx1000 might be for you.The mouse is perfect for gaming, well atleast in my own opinion. Teh only thing that you may not like at first is teh weight but couple of days using it it's not a issue.
But if you want a mouse that is light weight and hasnt got many buttons then teh Logitech G5/G7 might be for you instead, also teh G5/G7's are lighter (someone said that when you slide it on a mouse pad it slides alway to teh other side while teh MX1000 just stops cm's away)
There is also teh razer copperhead but I havnt researched that plus I really dont like it.
Hope this helps, they are just my own personal opinions.
Laters.

that new razor is for both left hands and right hands, so it may take some getting used to.
I use the Logitech Mx518, it is a blast, and no getting used to it either.
What it boils down to is if you are left or right handed. If you are a lefty, get the razor, if not, get the 518.

Go to Best Buy, see what feels better a Logitech or a Razer, mx510-G5 are all great mice, Copperhead is a great mouse too, just depends on how your hand is hsaped and which one feels better.

sounds like you arent looking for anything fancy. i would recommend this.

best gaming mouse for the price bare none. for $10usd shipping not included. with 800dpi it wont skip on you like your microsoft mouse. and if you require faster reflexes 800dpi wont do i would recommend the next best thing the mx518. if you tend to move the mouse very fast 800dpi sometimes will not track properly its great for non high sensitivity users.
*one more thing with the $10 logitech mouse if its still to heavy too your liking remove the screws and take out the weight right underneath the shell and it'll be very lite. also with the logitech mouse wheels i dont like their stiffness you can take out the wheel itself and bend the rod that adjusts the whell to your stiffness liking. i have done this with all my logitech mouse wheels and it works great.

with 1600dpi and extra buttons you cant go wrong. its perfect for surfing, programs, and games in one bundle. no matter how fast you move your mouse it will track where you want it.
i would avoid the razers due to their high learning curve. with the mice mentioned above you can get use to them almost immediately right out of the box.
the following use with care:
once you've gotten your new mouse play around with it and if you still feel its not quite right. you can always go here and download the "mouserate checker 1.1b".

this tool shows your mouses sample rate. the default for winxp is 125hz. track your pointer over it to tell you want your defualt is.
http://www.proarena.com/p/ftpx/f9057...bmrs11.exe.htm - usbmrs11 this utility will let you change that defualt winxp poll rate to go higher than 125hz. i personally have it at 500hz for my mx518. depending on your mouses dpi u might be limited. say for example if your mouse only has 800dpi. you probably can only go as high as 250hz. which is still good. so what is the big deal with making it go higher well you get better tracking the higher you can go. the smoother it tracks the better for your aim.
http://home.arcor.de/_aero/accelfix.exe - "Many gamers were having problems with unwanted mouse acceleration under Windows XP.
This was caused by a faulty API call ("SystemParametersInfo") which unintendedly enabled mouse acceleration even if it had been disabled previously.
There were some registry fixes aimed at disabling this acceleration, but they did not succeed.
This patcher does not try to solve the symptom like the registry fixes did, but disables mouse acceleration at its origin, the system driver ("win32k.sys").
If you have never noticed any unwanted mouse acceleration, you do not need to apply this patch."

if you have any further questions just pm me i'll be happy to help. these tweaks here wont make you a pro. its either you got it or you dont. however in the long run it certainly helps. every little bit counts if you're really into your fps games.
btw, i also recommend going to a local brick and mortar to check out these mice and see what the feel is like if you havent already. in the long run the mice i have recommended have been very good as far as egonomics for me. sometimes not everyones taste is alike.

short answer: if you want a low profile, high dpi gaming mouse, the razers are your best bet. i have a razer copperhead, and i love it.
long answer: test them all out at the store before you make your decision. i had to drive to 3 different stores just to find one that let me try out the mice i was choosing between, but i'm glad i did. i was originally leaning toward the logitech G7 because the dpi selection button is in a more convenient spot, but for me, it just wasn't as comfortable as the razer copperhead. i got mine at best buy when they had them for 59.99.

I've used both brands,
logitech MX1000, G5, G7
and the razer copperhead.
the copperhead is my favorite, its the fastest mouse I've used in gaming.
If you don't like the copperhead get the g5

Has anyone ever used the "Pistol" mouse for FPSers?
I wanted to buy it, and it has a good tracking laser in it, but I was not sure how acurate it would be. It looks like fun though.

Thanks everyone. This information has been extremely helpful. I ordered the Copperhead, primarily because of it's dimensions and weight. If it doesn't work well for me, my buddy will buy it and I'll investigate some of the other suggestions in this thread. I test drove the Logictech, and the profile makes it difficult to grasp and after just a few minutes of use, my hand fatigues.
I'm really looking forward to the dpi improvement over my 400 dpi Microsoft mouse. Should make a very noticeable improvement.

You must have really small hands.....
For me the Razer was too low profile. I had to put my thumb almost under the mouse to hit the thumb buttons.
I just couldn't use it - but it was really fast!
Hope that you'll be happy with it!
If not then the G5 is the next choice for a laser (wired) gaming mouse.

i just bought a mx 3100 (mx 1000 mouse and mx 3000 keyboard)
I am using a mx 518 now and a older version of logitech wireless keyboard. I think the mx 1000 better fits me. The mx 518 is too light and the mx 1000 is better for my big hands and has a better grip.

Yeah, I've been praising the Copperhead for a while, but it's starting to really hurt my hands. I have big hands and it's making them cramp up. I'm looking at replacing it with the new G7 or maybe the Bluetooth MX1000.

Until you start playing FPS games.....
I know cuz I switched from the MS Eltie Wireless Desktop keyboard and mouse.
The mouse felt great in my hands but I couldn't play my games worth crap with it.
I'm doing the Logitech G5 mouse and G15 keyboard now. :D

I really like my MX1000, it's just a little heavier than I'd like.. but you can't get much lighter since it has a lithium battery :) (very light compared to a mouse using AAs) Rumor has it that Logitech has a G7 replacement in the works that doesn't have gimped side buttons and isn't ugly as all get out. Wooo! :P

Logitech G5 or G7.

Razer Copperhead. I use to use Logitech only but once I got this one, I fell inlove. Its such an awsome mouse. So smooth and accurate.
