I am planning on buying a 630 (3.0) ghz cpu and want to oc it to 3.8Ghz on air.
Is this a reasonable speed for air cooling?
I don`t know which heatsink and fan combo to buy. im on a limited budget so price is an issue. I would buy used to save money if it would help. with that info what do you recommend?

What's your budget?
Depending on my budget and on what HSF it's being sold I may buy it used. But like I said, it all depends.

If you can afford $40, go for a Thermaltake Blu Orb II. I don't have one yet, but will be testing one shortly. If you read the specs, though, it's even nicer than the Zalman coolers. At 17db, the thing pushes 77.5cfm of air... that should help me overclock my 930 to a 4ghz, if you read my other thread, so it will probably help you hit 4ghz as well :p

I'd stick with the stock until you figure out it's not good enough. I had no problem running my 640 @ 4.0 ghz on the stock cooler. Under load from prime for 5 hours it never went above 51C.

My 550 would Idle at 50-60 at 3.8 but the airflow in my case sucks. I like the the Thermaltake sonic tower and the big copper one thats similar

that Thermal take Blue Orb II looks nice. Where is the cheapest place online to get one you think?
As for the stock cooler, i could use it but id rather not take my chances and spend another 30-40 bucks on this thing. I have heard mixed advice about using the stock cooler. Thats the only reason.

thermaltake blue orb?
um...go thermalright

What's wrong with the blu orb ii? Not only is it quiet as hell, but it pushes a LOT of air... for only $40 bucks! And it even has a blue light and blue copper heatsink :p
You can try NewEgg or ZipZoomFly... or just do a general pricegrabber search, as I'm not sure where it's cheap in the US. I just know where to get it cheap here in Canada (42.50US=$50 Canadian, which I paid for it). Good luck :)

Ya the Thermaltake Blue Orb 2 is nice the only reason its better then a Zalman is because of the 2 extra blades. More air, Lower speeds. I wanted a Blue Orb but they didnt have any at Fry's got a Zalman 7700CU idle 28 load 43 on a prescott.
