HD wont let windows onto it ( 2 Views )

1. Hello,
   
   I have an SATA harddrive, the problem first started when I reset the bios and cleared it out. From that moment on, the harddrive wouldnt boot. Then I was stupid, and went into the windows repair console thing, and did a fixboot on it. Now when I try to start windows and have it repair the drive, like reinstall windows onto it, in the list of harddrives, it says that it has the FAT file system, which it should have NTFS, and when I go into it, it wants to completely reformat it. Is there a way to fix it some how?

3. you probably hosed the drive by doing the fixboot thing... reformat may be your only option, unless you have another computer you can put the drive in... then you can use a NTFS recover program to copy off your critical files.
   
   But you will most likely have to reformat before you can install windows again.

4. Fixboot doesn't typically hose a working drive.
   
   My guess is you reset bios, the drive was picked up incorrectly and the fixboot couldn't read the drive correctly to fix anything...hence is rewrote the boot sector.
   
   That or the drive is actually bad.
   
   try the reformat to see if it actually works.

5. If theres any possibly way around the reformat option, i would greatly prefer that step. NTFS recover program?

7. also try a fixboot
   and when you do recovery console, make sure you do the sata drives thing with windows if windows is on the SATA drive
