Socket 754 motherboard with PCI-e, suggestions? ( 2 Views )
-
Wanting to upgrade my graphics card to one of the PCI-e variety but not quite ready for a full overhaul, hence the need for a 754 mobo with PCI-e....which would you guys suggest? I saw a few on newegg with good ratings but they were Micro-ATX - would definitely prefer regular ATX since I'm putting it in a Sonata II. Any suggestions would be appreciated - thanks!

Lots of NF4 4x chipset motherboards are ATX. I got the abit nv8 myself. It needed a bios flash for any sort of overclocking, but now it's good. Most would probably recommend the DFI infinity or EPoX board though.

asus k8n4e deluxe
the asus k8n4e dlx is a fine feature rich board.has everything onboard you could need.does o/clocks well, not dfi insane clocks but very respectable ones.i ran the asus k8n4 e for 6 months before upgrading to my 939 system that i run now.i was very pleased with the asus board as i am with my a8n-e 939 board now.they are really hard to beat.

Get the epox s754 SLi... I sold mine to upgrade to a opteron... but I loved it. The 3dmark scores from my 3400+ newcastle with 7800GT SLi matched the scores of X2 4800+'s with 7800GT SLi.... serious. :)

Second the NV8. BIOS 12 fixes a heap of problems (unlisted), and overclocking was fixed with BIOS 11 (the 250Mhz BIOS limitation). Over 300 HTT is almost always a certainty.
You could also look into the K8N-4E from ASUS, it has far more features, is slightly pricier, and doesn't overclock quite as well (still good, though).
DFI also have a 754+PCI-E board, the NF4-X Infinity, but I've got no idea how it performs. There's probably more info on it than the NV8, though, it being DFI.
