2005fpw really worth it? ( 3 Views )

1. are those 2005FPWs really worth it? i seem to see alot of problem threads with them.
   Id love to get one but are they worth the trouble?
   
   What other 20"+ WS monitors are out there for the same price(if any)?

2. The only one that I could find that actually had reviews(from [H] members) is the gateway 2185, mine has very nice and even backlighting and does very well in games(no ghosting at all)
   every LCD is going to have issues I think, it is just a matter of finding one that has fewer issues, and to me its the gateway.

3. yes the 2005fpw is worth it, do you really think that if it had that many problems people would buy them? the only reason you see so many threads is because its an awesome monitor and lots of people buy them and the people with problems post about them and the people that dont have problems dont post
   
   if you do have problems dell will send you a new monitor first then you ship the old one back.

4. i thought the same thing, if there was so many problems why do some many have them and thats why i asked what i did.

5. I have one and can't tolerate the motion blur in gaming and the screen door effect.
   
   On a positive note, the replacement I recieved had no significant backlight bleeding and blacks were uniform from top to bottom.

6. Unlike the the Gateway 2185, the Dell does not have all the inputs, such as Component, so you can't also use it as a TV.

8. I've had no problems with mine. It's worth it, especially if you get it with a good coupon.

11. the price difference, I estimate is $120
    $400 for Dell (though that is on the low side) and $520 for Gateway, it was onsale at one point for that much @ CircuitCity with free shipping...

12. I wish I could say I had no problems, actually my monitor was perfect, no dead pixels, completly minimal backlight problems, the monitor kicked the pants off anything I've seen or used before.
    
    A couple of days ago the image just dissapeared, almost like a loose wire just fell out or something, I dont know, but its back in the box now and I'm waiting till tomorrow so I can ring dell and get it sorted. Hopefully I'll get a replacement as beautiful as the one I had (untill it carked it)
    
    How do I feel about it? Pissed off that I'm not using it right now, but currently feeling pretty safe I'll get one up and running again in the near future. Just a pitty for the mean time that I have to put up with a piece of crap in the mean time. So crap that I cant stand the lack of area to work with. I utterly miss the amount of space I had. Using this monitor feels awkward now, like, trying to play a computer game with your left nut in a vice.

    I asked these same questions not too long ago myself. Being optimistic I realized that there were more positive replys than negative posts about the 2005fpw. I thought it was worth it, so a recently bought one.The other monitors that I considered were the:
    
    GATEWAY FPD2185W ~ $600
    VIEWSONIC VA2012wb - $399
    VIEWSONIC VX2025wn ~ $450 (Should be out in a month or two?)
    ACER AL2032WA ~ $499
    
    Given the great feedback on the DELL it seemed like a good buy. So, in the proccess of looking around for discounts I read a post that states that a rep from Dell claims that the backlight issues were resolved with the new A03 '06 revisions. Hearing this along with the monitor being on sale for $411(25% off) and the $35 off of $300 coupons on ebay I ordered one. I called in the order and ask the rep if he could match a deal another person received that I read about on the net. He asked what price I was looking to pay, I said $374 and some change. He matched that price without even using my $35 off coupon. All good! Until I got it....
    
    The monitor has what I though was BAD backlight issues. I received a replacement and it has even WORST backlight issues. So I have two monitors here with issues and Dell might be sending out a third? So if/when I get a good one the monitor will be a good buy...until then...I feel cheated. The no-name el cheepo 17" LCD panel that I bought my mom 2 years ago does not have this issue.

    I gues it depends on what your source for TV is. It has COMPOSITE VIDEO, S-VIDEO, DVI inputs.That should support most Digital Cable boxes....One could always install a TV Tuner card. But I guess if you are trying to watc HiDef on this thing, the Gateway is better suited (HDCP Video Content Encryption Chip).
