3.06 GHz Pentium 4 Mobile running at 1.6 GHz - Whats wrong? ( 2 Views )

1. I recently bought a 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 Mobile processor from ScHpAnKy on the For Sale/Trade forums. I just installed it, but it's only showing up as a 1.6 GHz processor. I'm sure I'm missing something thats obvious, but that's what I'm good at, being an idiot.
   
   
   
   So, anyone know whats wrong? Any help would be greatly apprieciated.
   
   BTW, in case you need info about the system, its a Shuttle SS56G:

2. Well , it has SpeedStep and I guess it is on .
   
   => when it is idling it reduces multiplier to 12 ( 12x133=1600 instead of 25 )in order to save power.
   
   As soon as you run something cpu intensive it jumps back to 25 ( 3060Mhz )
   
   The positive : quiet and cool
   The negative : might experience a lag when running cpu intensive stuff as it ups the multi
   
   You should have some setting in the BIOS to disable SpeedStep ( dunno if appears like that in the BIOS ) but if it were me I would leave it on.

4. Isn't the cpu multiplier unlocked ? If so , the problem is alleviated.

8. when you put a mobile P4 chip in a desktop board, the multiplier is locked at 12. you should have done your research before buying this. Just try increasing your FSB as much as you can to get as much speed out of the CPU that you can.

9. I am pretty sure that since this is a Mobil CPU that is will not work in most desktop boards.....It will show up just as it is for you..at a much lower clock speed.....
   
   this has been discussed here before, Im pretty sure you can search and find the answer..I would do it, but its early and Im lazy :)
