MX518 or Razer diamondback? ( 3 Views )
-
which out of those 2 mice is best for gaming and general use?
and does the diamondback have 2 buttons on the side?
(ceyhun, Greenland)
Did you consider the G5 mouse? I was told it comes with different weights , this would let you have more options of the feel of the mouse
I would either get the g5 or diamond back mouse
(sinan, Turkmenistan)
both of them are under £35 the g5 is around £50 and seeing as im buying a new computer worth around £1400 and its all my parents money i dont want to spend £15 on a slightly better mouse...
(tarık, Oman)
Diamondback is too sharp-edged for me, I'd go with the MX 518, it's more comfortable.
If you can afford a G5, I'd go with it. I have a G7, love it.
EDIT: Posted at the same time. :p

Mayhs- do you plan to play video games with the mouse or just for normal use?
Also what kind of mouse pad will you be using the mouse from?
Do you also plan to purchase mouse skates?

MX518
More buttons, more comfortable, better mouse.

The Razer if you have relatively smaller hands, the Logitech if you have big hands. The difference is pretty simple, you control the Razer with your fingers and the Logitech with your palm. I prefer the fingers significantly but its personal. Go and try them out at a store if you can.

does the razer have side buttons?
(MUSTAFA, Australia)
Razer has two side buttons, to increase/decrease sensitivity. Not sure if they can be reprogrammed like logitech.

:D
what mouse did you have before?
(emine, Central African Republic)
I've used the Mx518/Copperhead/Diamondback, and out of the three I like the diamondback the best. You also have the ability to program macro's, to the 4 side buttons. People complain the right handside buttons are hard to press, but I mean there only there because it's an ambidextrous mouse. I also am not a logitech hater, I have a g15 and love. Some may find it strange but I like the side buttons of the DB better than the Copperhead.

first a sony vaio mouse that came with one of my sony vaios, then a belkin optical mouse (first optical mouse ever used by me :D), then my first wireless set, the MX cordless duo which i got for christmas. it was fine for normal usage, but the keyboard and mouse would lag in games. so, i went back to my ancient...literally ancient sony vaio crap-tastic probably $4 keyboard which never lags in games now, and i bought the MX 518 at tiger direct for $39+ like $1 tax and god damn that thing is nice. when i saw it in the store, i was like, "Hey, i came in here with money and fine my games lagging..." so i bought it :D
i won't go back either

oh 2 buttons on either side...hmm so i can programme the 2 buttons on the right to change sensitivity and the ones on the left to go backwards/forwards on the net etc?

I own a 510 (same design as 518) and the diamondback. The diamondback seems rough edged, but it's actually pretty comfortable. It has two side button on the left, and two on the right so that it can be used by lefties.

G5/G7 > ALL
That being said, out of the two I'd go with the MX518.

Yes that included the Razor. I've never liked any of their mice. By the way Logitech has drivers for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition also. You just have to download them from their website.

hmm...im trying to stick under the £50 bracket lol :p
(doga, Romania)
so which one out of the 2?
(isa, El Salvador)
Definately the MX518. I have it and it is good. Very comfortable except for my ring finger which has no real place on the mouse. But besides that, it is a great mouse.
(furkan, Maldives)
Like a few people have said, you really should try both of them out at a store if that is possible.
(tamer , Czech Republic)
Whichever one's shape you like best. They both use the same optical sensor. They both have 2 thumb buttons available that can be programmed. The shape is up to you. The logitech is designed to fill your hand more, where as the DB is slimmer, shorter and lighter making it a bit more easy to handle with your fingers, less with your palm.

DB>518 in accuracy, oppisite in ergonomics

My hand fits much better on the db, especially my pinky. My wrist would always end up in a weird position with my 510.
(özkan, Fiji)
hmm...i cant really try them out, becasue the retailers here like PCworld and Dixons and Comet dont really stock these mice...i may be wrong but im not sure...which one is best for fps?
(DeSTReY, Tanzania, United Republic of)
its really whats comfortable to you.. would you rather play with your fingertips or your palm? I actually just ordered a DB plasma and it should be in monday. I currently have a MSintellimouse explorer 2.0 which is a GREAT mouse... for everyday use... I really just want to try it out to see if I like controlling with fingertips... plus it will match my saitek eclipse keyboard I also ordered!
(orhan , Liechtenstein)
I have a MX500 that I've had for like forever.
Love this mouse A LOT.
After using this all other mouses feel cheap and plasticy, except for other MX mouses.
I kind of regret not getting the MX700 (wireless).
Then the G5 and G7 came out and i was temped to go for the G7 to reverse my mistake years ago.
But that tilting scroll wheel has disabpionted me so i havent bought it.
All i can say is that the MX518 would be a good bet.
And a decent pad is needed. A good mouse goes to complete waist on a rubbish surface.
I found that out when i first got my MX500.

hmmm...would it be ok on a hard wooden surface or is a mouse pad needed?
(mert, Mali)
ok.....here's whats up. Lots of people that have tried the Razer, might not have given it enough time. It has quite a learning curve to get used to. It's hard to explain other than that. So you might be frustrated with it at first, but then you'll love it once you're used to it. As for buttons, you program them to do pretty much anything. I tried setting it up the way you wanted it and it works fine. Be warned that the two buttons on the right side are there to to make the mouse work for lefties and not really intended for right handers, BUT you can still hit them with a little hand adjustment. the sensitivity adjustment is done with just one of the side buttons. you hold that programmed button and then move the scroll wheel up and down to what you want then it's changed the moment you let go of that side button. I haven't tried the MX518 so I don't know what it's learning curve or accuracy is like, but I love my razer. I have however used an MX500 which has the same shape and like a few people said, your pinky finger has no real place to go. that's why i didn't get one.
Hope that clears some stuff up for you. you could always order both mice, try them out, then suffer return shipping and possibly a %15 restock fee if you simply cannot decide. I have always controlled the mouse with the tips of my fingers. my palm hardly touches the mouse when in combat so the razer was an obvious choice for me.

Hey Mayhs, like everyone is saying the MX518 is an excellent mouse with one caveat. I love the idea of adjusting the sensitivity on the fly. I bought one because I play a lot of FPS games as well. Mine is sitting in a drawer right now un-used. I use my middle wheel a bunch when I play fps and I found I kept hitting the sensitivity buttons by accident on the MX518. Was really frustrating so I just went back to my trusty old Intellimouse 4.0...... Just something to think about.
