What can I upgrade? ( 2 Views )

1. I recently sold my rig and old laptop. I went to Best Buy and purchased a decent toshiba satellite with a Celeron M and 512mb ram. Here is the link to the laptop itself. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1130986703639
   
   Now I normally don't buy computers or laptops at BB, but I got this laptop for under $850. What can I upgrade on it, is it hard to do. I know RAM will be simple, but Id like a p4 M instead of a Celeron, a better video card, and well, maybe an upgrade in sound - possibly an external - simply because the audio on this sucks, and when hooked up to my 440wt Logitech speaker system, I have to turn the speakers WAY up to hear anything. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

2. Based on the Notebook FAQ and several user's guides online (including the guide for yours), the RAM and hard drive can be replaced easily. (The wireless card, not so much... but it can be done.) The video card is hit or miss: if you see a separate, dedicated card (and if it's not fused onto the motherboard), you may be able to swap it. (Keep in mind though that opening up the laptop, other than to swap out the hard drive or to add RAM, will void your warranty.) Since it's onboard sound that you're talking about, the best solution to that problem is to add a sound card designed for the PCMCIA/PC Card slot. However, it won't produce sound through the onboard speakers, so you would have to use headphones or an external speaker set.
   
   There is a site discussed in one of the stickies about disassembling Toshiba notebooks. Your laptop seems to be a new model, because I didn't see it listed on that site. But you may be able to use the site (and its pictures) as a general reference as to how to take it apart....
