How do you get your site to be on a search engine? ( 2 Views )

no kitty!
  1. What i mean is when you go into google and type in the name of your site, but nothing about your site comes up. take my site for example (it is in profile), when I type in Napalm Death in google, my site is nowhere to be found.

So how does a search engine categorize websites, even though it's the same keyword/name of site? The number of users that visited? How long it has been active?

I already have a great number of users visiting my site, although I am just curious about this

    Thanks again

  2. The topic of search engine submissions and optimization is pretty deep. It's a tough crowd when it comes to this stuff. I highly reccomend you read this guide, it should cover most questions you may have.

  3. I heard that the more external links you have on your website, the higher you will rank in search engines.

  4. Hi, I hear otherwise, it's the more links to YOUR site that makes you rank higher (as if you're the important site that other care about)

according to the above post, will a link to my site have the same effect as if it was a link like this: http://www.napalmdeath.be/napalm/napalm_death/ or like this?

  7. Had a quick look at your site. The home page is not very well optimized for search engines.

Here is the sum total of text on your home page:

    Quote:

    ^ Click Above ^

Last updated - 1/18/2006 - "Hung" (Radio Edit - RARE!), "Living In Denial" and "Truth Drug" added in the 1991-1994 section

This site is currently under construction. The site will at least be updated every other week with a new boot or video. As of right now, a Live video of Lowpoint in 1997 is up under the 1995-1999 directory. Soon I will upload The Peel Sessions (1987, 1988, 1990). Sometime I will also make it easier to navigate the site...

Another killer ND site | My preferred page there (translated) | Slaytanic | Napalm Death Forums
The only time the words "Napalm Death" even occur is in a link to forums that are not even part of your site. Another thing to remember with SEO is keyword density. The whole "under construction" info and other irrelevant text do nothing but dilute your density. Ideally, you want ~250 words of relevant text on your home page.

Do you know the word "logic"? That just so doesn't make sense at all.

The latter helps you with the keyword if it is in the link's name. Otherwise it doesn't matter.

  9. Search Engine Optimization, you can google is and find alot about it but its not easy to do. There companys that do it for you, I have one my self. ;)

  10. SEO is as stated a deep subject, but here are some basics:

    General

Links OUT boost page rank. Links to high PR sites help, links to low PR sites hurt.

Links IN are figured into PR, but are not weighted as heavily as links OUT.

PR updates infrequently, so getting a higher PR takes time.

Links IN boost Linkpop . any links in help here.

Links IN get your site indexed more often.

    Things to do

Match possible searches in your page TEXT.

Match possible searches in your page TITLES.

Match possible searches in your URLs.

Match possible searches in image alt tags.

Match possible searches in meta tags (google ignores them).

Submit your site map to Google Sitemaps .

Post your front page link on message boards. Don't spam though.

Set up HTACCESS so that you only have 1 domain either http://www.xxxxxxx or http://xxxxxxx

    Change content regularly.

    Add pages regularly.

Stale sites tend to dissappear on the search engines.

If you post your URL on MSN groups you will get good results on MSN searches.

These are just a few things. I suggest searching for message boards on search engine optimization. The first steps they'll suggest the ones I've mentioned, then go from there.

Also remember that this takes time. Unless you're doing something that noone has ever done before there are a lot of sites competing for top spot on the search engines. #1 result gets an estimated 85% of search engine traffic. If you're on the second page or farther you will get almost none.

Where are you getting your (mis)information?

Outbound inks mean nothing. The only reason to include outbound links is if your visitors might actually find them useful.

Inbound links are good, but not if they come from FFA link farms, in which case they can actually hurt you.

  12. Brain fart.

Was talking to wife while editing post.

Inbound from high page rank sites helps indound from low PR sites does not.

Outbound links will only help the sites you link to in most cases. There are arguments out there for outbound links, but most are at least a couple years old.

Really, where did you hear this?. Isn't the point of mega tags to supply computers with information of the pages content?
