WooHoo - Just a Dell 2405FPW ( 2 Views )
-
Now..please someone re-assure me that me 600 quid is well spent...I can't wait to receive this baby. I've read all sorts of reviews (including here) and there seem's to be an overwhelming concensus that this is truly a fab TFT (even for gamers).
I'm going to be wallmounting and have also purchased a VESA mount for just over a £10 on ebay.
cheers

I have been using mine for a little over a year and I have had no problems. I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer and I have never witnessed any slow down. I play games like cs, doom3, FEAR, WoW.
Right now I have the 360 hooked up to it and couldn't be happier with the image quality.
I love this monitor.

skitt, what rez does it look best for you? 1080i stetched? aspect? 720p? etc...

Cheers guy's. Thanks for reassuring me :)
I'd like to know if, when you use other resolutions (say, 1024x768 / 1280x1024 etc), these can be displayed 1:1 (ie, as you would expect them on a regular CRT), or do they always stretch to fit the entire screen. Also, when this is done, how much worse is the image?
thanks again

I a major gamer, never had problem with my 2405, it fucking rox

Hi Maka, what sort of resolutions do you run at? I have an XFX 7800GT (extreme edition) and am hoping that, maybe, I can run 'some' games at full whack (1900x1200)?
(alp, Marshall Islands)
if you spent 600 quid you spent way too much

Bugger! It's the cheapest I could find, by scouring Froogle, Pricerunner, Dealtime, Kelkoo, and just general google searching. Where have you seen it cheaper?
And the 600 included VAT and delivery. It's like £942.35 on the official Dell (UK) website ?!? I checked all the usual places (savastore, ebuyer etc) and it was still the cheapest.
(okan, Falkland Islands (Malvinas))
I don't own one but I've been able to use one on occation. Play some PC games along with an Xbox360 hooked up using component cables.
I want one. It's freakin beautiful.
hell, the only reason i don't have one is I don't have the money ATM
(necmiye, Palestinian Territory, Occupied)
If anyone knows where you can get it for less than 600 notes (in the UK), please let me know.

720p scaled to fit looks the best IMO. The colors look a little better with 1080i but not much.

wow that's a nice price where did you get it?
I live in france and the price for the 2405 on dell 's site is about 1300 euro so approximatively 1500$
(efekan, Svalbard and Jan Mayen)
You know what
If you enjoy it and you can afford it, then it doesn't matter how much money you spent. The monitor is great and i'm sure you'll really enjoy using it.
Cheers

(naz, Papua New Guinea)

ITC Sales
I think the guy telling me I'd paid too much, was winding me up :) I haven't seen it cheaper than this anywhere...unless, of course, it's second hand etc. But I'd rather have the 3 year warranty.
Cheers

Thx a lot ;)

If you have used an LCD for gaming before I'm sure you will be happy with this one. Not going to beat it's size for the price and it's performance is pretty good. If you haven't gamed on an LCD before, I'm sorry but i can't give you 100% certainty you will get the warm and fuzzies. Contrary to some opinion, LCDs in general have not shaken off a couple of weaknesses that are there by definition. Like being an overdriven PVA it will blur a little. The Apple does, the eizo does, the samsung does, the Dell..... does. Be glad you didn't spend even more on the formers because those mffg's haven't got the magic pixie dust either. I'm sorry but unrealistic expectations are the stings that last.
It's a great display. One I wasn't tickled pink with but I can see others gaming on it. My 24" FW900 being a CRT by definition has finicky geometry, 2 annoying AG lines, etc. Heh... I just got bit by all the "it's perfect!" when I was buying a 2405. I don't get it. Can't see the blur consult your eye doctor, don't spend 1k on a display. :p:
(sanane, Canada)
I dont know what kind of blur you are talking about. I've had mine for a year and no blur. If there is one, its microscopic.
(taha, Turks and Caicos Islands)
Before the 2405, I had a 21" Viewsonic high end crt. I definitely got the "warm and fuzzies" after unpacking and playing with the 2405 for a few hours.

You're exactly the kind of guy I'm talking about.... no offense. I just want the guy to have realistic expectations. You don't see the blur? Well, then I guess you're one of the not as sensitive types I hear about. Believe me, if I sat down in front of your display I would notice right away. It's not that others have bad apples. If by microscopic you mean not noticable, then you are lucky, and it's not that you have a magic one I'm referring to your sensitivity.
Like I was saying, overdriven PVA panels blur, TN panels have bad blacks, etc. etc. etc. These are FACTS. I don't want to rain on the "2405 is great" parade, but displays should not be bought on heresay. I don't want the guy to regret his display, the chances are greater that he will love it. But I do want to let him know going to a forum after the fact, to have people make you feel better about your purchase, is generally a bad move. Extremely so when you are dealing with something with wideknown areas that can be improved on. It's not so bad in the States where you can return them if the Driver looked at you funny, but not elsewhere. This didn't even come from Dell. Probably always good advice and I'm sorry folks but LCDs haven't come far enough that you don't have to be particularly careful.
Three cheers to those that can come out and say, it blurs a little, but I still like it better than any CRT I ever had etc. But "perfect"... hell no. Lets not kid ourselves. Maybe you're not sensitive, but many are just making themselves better. It doesn't blur right... and the pope is jewish.
(BURAK, Estonia)
yadda yadda, the display is GREAT!
(fdfs, Serbia and Montenegro)
Recognizing when an argument won't be won... good move. :p
Overdriven PVA. All there is to it. Look first, buy second.
Edit: Meh, I don't really mean to be a jerk. It's about the advice for me. Speakers too and all that kind of stuff check it out first. Can be very subjective.
