SMALL Watercooling setup? ( 3 Views )
-
Ive been thinking about this recently... Ive never used watercooling and never looked into it so I dont know if this exists. Ide be willing to go watercooling if I could find what Ive had in mind... or if I could make it.
My idea:
Pump connected directly to radiator (maybe on top of it) in one unit. The radiator acts as the res as well... this exist? Will the radiator being the res work? Out = pumped out to CPU, In = water being pump through the radiator and back out. I dont see why this wouldnt work but then again Ive never messed with watercooling at all so I dont know what types of problems could exist (air bubbles, pump/flow problems, etc).

Actually, thats almost exactly what I had in mind. That thing looks tacky though... does it perform decent at all?
I wish one hadnt existed... I wouldve made it, hehe. :D
I still will think about making it to include in my next project.

i saw a review for it in CPU. It had slightly above decent performance. but it certanly is no swiftech storm

Dont coolermaster make a similar and less tacky looking product?

Make it anyway. Now you know it can be done and have a template for how to do it, make a non-tacky one.

Ive never done anything with watercooling but I will try to make this for my next project.
Any comments on using the radiator as the res? Suggestions on a decently performing block for my CPU, it doesnt need to look cool... it will be hidden. Also, any suggestions on a pump and res? Im going to try to make a custom housing for the rad and pump to make it look like one unit so size/shape will matter.
Ive never done any watercooling... but I will research each thing before I get to work (which will be a week or two).

Alright, here are a few things that it seems like I could use to make my setup. I was looking on Frozen CPU just to get an idea of whats out there.

This pump decent? The flow seems horrible compared to others, but then again, Ive never water cooled so Im now sure if it is looked upon as bad. Only reason this one caught my eye is because of its small size. It would work good for my project if it actually is a decent performer.

This might be a bit big, I could really use a 92mm rad if anyone knows where to find one.
Now, for my res, Im not exactly going to be using a traditional resevoir. Originally I didnt want to use one but Ive found the perfect spot for it. My project is complicated, but Im going to make a res that is about the size of a stick of butter except as long as a stick of ram. I dont know much about water cooling so this might be a bad idea:

|___________________|< I assume if I put the out here it would minimize air bubbles?
If I was to go with this pump is there a low flow waterblock that would work well with it? Again, I know nothing about watercooling except how it works so input would be greatly appriciated.

I'm pretty sure you'll only be able to find 80mm radiators, or 120mm radiators. I'd definately go fo a 120mm. I saw a Black Ice Extreme radiator in the for sale section for $20. You might want to give that a look. And you don't really need a res. Just use a t-line.

what case do you have?

I've had bad experience with frozencpu, they sent my the wrong parts and they charge FPO an arm & a leg for shipping.
i like ordering from: dangerden, svc, performance-pcs
those etailers are great.
a little more infor on your system would help

Im going to be building the case from scratch. Its going to be roughly the size of a microATX mid tower (sort of). Im not planning on starting it quite yet or I would throw up some pics. That looks promising though... I might have some ideas to use that.

thats cool that your building from scratch, are you gonna start a worklog?

Yes, Ive been planning this rig for years. I havent really gotten into the sketching phase until recently... and I realised watercooling would be perfect if I can fit it all inside. Im going to take my rig in my sig and attempt to put it all into something the size of a large cooking pot. Im themeing it off of my favorite RPG (hint, you can have sex with a sheep) but everything is going to be original, its too old to borrow any graphics or ideas from the game.
I need to finish my current case though... I will post finished pictures of this one here in a week or two when Im done. When I moved to Texas I pretty much just stopped working on it. I just need to cut a few pieces of sheet metal, do a little painting, and Im done.

that pump rox! (its what ia m using) there are higher flowing pumps out there but the head on that one is tough to beat. you can increase the flow dramaticaly with a simple mod where you move the inlet barb to the top of the pump as well.
