New PCs and Already Thinking About Upgrading! ( 2 Views )

OK... PCs are in signature... this is what I'm thinking.
I'm considering trying to sell my X2 3800+'s and going with Opteron 165's and trying to overclock them a hair.
Would the stock heatsink and fan be OK... I'm not going for a radical overclock... maybe 2.2 - 2.5. Would I run into any problems with my current RAM or motherboard?

So you haven't OC'd your current stuff? I never get that line of thinking. Definitely only even remotely makes sense if you were buying something cheaper, for sole purpose of experimenting. Still a chance your "upgrade" won't truly be as fast as what you had. You'll never know, without overclocking both. So why not start with what you got.

Nope, haven't fooled with the X2's at all. I can re-sell them as virgins if I leave them alone you know? :)

the X2 will most likely go to 2.2-2.5 with no issues? upgrading would be a waste of money... If your hoping for a warrant yon the opty it would be gone after OCing anyway...

OK, OK, I'm going to try the X2's, if I can get 2.2 stable I will be happy :) Either way, I know the warranty will be technically shot either way. What the hell, I'm going to see what kind of OC I can get out of the video cards too. I knew I wouldn't be able to leave well enough alone... never have before...
