Proper MetaTag KeyWords? ( 6 Views )
-
I'm trying to not only make my metatag keywords more efficient for search engines like Google, but I am also trying to make them more efficient my own site search engine.
I run a Corvette car web site and have "model centers" for each year. Each center has a few pages that fall under it for example, identification, production, specifications.
In the metatag section for the index page of these model centers, I have the year, "corvette" and the description of the page. For example:
For the 1975 Model Center I have:
1975, corvette, specifications, identification, production.
However, for each of those pages (example: Specifications page), I have 1975, corvette, specifications.
Now, if someone comes to my site to run a search on 1975 specifications, they'll get a ton of pages based on the term 1975, and "1975" and "specifications". Should I be setting up my meta tag in the following manner instead:
"1975 corvette", "1975 specifications", "1975 production", etc?

Bob Carrick: Can you show me one "large" website that uses no commas in their keywords? I have never seen a site do this.

Google won't look at your meta-tags, and Google will ignore your commas as well.

I didn't think so because I have commas between all of my meta tag keywords.
I get the most hits from Google and my site is listed on the second page when running a keyword search. Google and yahoo are the two main sites that I get the most hits from. MSN - rarely if ever.
I went ahead and registered my site on Zeal.com and I for whatever it's worth, I decided to go ahead and break open the piggy bank and pay the $39 for 1 year with Network Solutions which was listed as a reseller on the Inktomi site.

Robac - Google doesn't use your meta keywords for searchs and indexing.
sdesigns - What do you consider a large website.

For titles, commas - in fact punctuation of any sort - between keywords for Google is a waste of space. So are common words such as "is" "of" "the" etc.
Really, optimising for Google means using a title for key words, little else. Of course, there's good use of keywords and bad, though. Key word spamming is never recommended.
