Need Reviews Before I Redesign ( 5 Views )

Hi,
I'm currently re-coding the backend for my site, and I'm going to work on the design very soon, and I was hoping that I could get some of you to take a look at my website and let me know what you think of it before I redesign it.

My website is about sixth generation Toyota Celicas, and is available at here.

Please be as harsh as you want! :)

Just looked at it in Moz FireBird and it is very nice. Fast , clean, and easy to navigate. I would not change much.

I think the site it designed quite well, the menus is nice and even your ads look good in it :p !!

I think the text size is fine, since the user can make in bigger to their liking!

I love the boxes on the left for navigation. The picture of the car in the logo is nice, but the rest of the top banner could be spiffied up some. The straight blue and white lines are kinda dull. Also, in IE 5.1 for Mac, the page is messed up near the top right corner just below the banner. The "not registered" red graphic and the login boxes are directly under text in your opening paragraph.

Overall a very good job.

Overall a very welldone site, good colors, font's are consistent.

The only real change that I would recommend would be to increase your margins in the main content body and put 10-15 pixels of white space around it.

good html, superb fonts and sizes, maybe make passages shorter, front page looks a bit too verbose, overall a very good one, i like it.

BUT there's a bug. in opera 800x600 it has a big padding on top, while the car logo is below the header and under the text, fix that nasty.

looking good, loading fast!
Apart from that - most of the things I would comment on have already been covered here, like too much text on the homepage - could maybe be broken apart a bit visually with images for example.
Apart from that... nice site!

i think overall the site is good. so, there aren't big changes that need made. mostly just the little stuff that has already been pointed out. i would like to add one thing:

change the banner image. it is a nice angle, but the picutre doesn't have great value. get an image with more contrast, that image is too gray. and if you are really attached to that image (for example if that is a picture of YOUR celica) then photoshop it.

otherwise, looks nice.

i like the design over all, its very clean and easy. the middle part, where all of the main text is, id add some cell padding, since the text gets close to the edges of the browser and the nav bar. but otherwise, looks very nice. in the middle you can also put a light gray toyota-logo background thats static, but really light so it doesnt distract from the text. also, maybe its my monitor, but the nav text on the side is kinda small and hard to read. its most likely my monitor. but i really like the layout. coolness.

Wild boar, I plan to incorporate some Google Adsense advertisements into the site once I put the new design online, and I'll just rotate in some other banners such as my host's banner and a couple others.

I agree with amix in that more cellpadding on the left and right is needed for the main body content, to space it away from the navbar. Otherwise, looks pretty smooth. :D

This has nothing to do with the design of your website.. but I noticed your sponsor is not a direct advertisement.. It's a hosting advertisement.. and you see them on almost every site you go to.. People want something different, and if there going to visit your celica page, I'm sure there into celicas.. right? Then provide them with advertisements that will help them out.. I'm sure your getting a comission or pay per click out of it, but I would focous on car parts or become an affiliate with a website that deals with celicas, Try it, if it works.. more power to you, and more cash in your wallet! Just give me half the profits if it increases cash flow.. j/k

the only thing i'd do is put more space/padding between the left column and the main content. like the padding once you scroll down the page past where the left column stuff is. wouldn't hurt to have it on the right-hand side too.

Thanks for the comments so far guys. My new design has increased line spacing along with less text on the home page so far. Also, I have a side bar on both the left and right side of the new design so far, and that helps make the lines shorter and easier to read as well.

To nickc, I'm redesigning because I want to incorporate a right navigation bar, and I want to kind of space everything out more and produce a better-looking design.

Tested in Mozilla 800x600 56k modem. Loads relatively quickly. Nice busy forum I see. Why redesign it? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Wow, loaded really fast. Overall, generally speaking... I like! The top banner and image is cool and the site fits nicely together.

My main concern is the text on the front page is really hard to read - not because it's too small but because there's so much of it crammed together on a bland background. I'd suggest some line-spacing, maybe a couple more images and a slightly lighter shade on the front page (or is that white? I can't tell, but text on the featured ride page is a lot easier to read due to it being spaced out more). Also feel like the nav on the left is too small - could do with making it big and in yer face.

Generally though... it's good!

Looks good.. you could try using different colors.. I would put half of the text on the page in to an archive.. I think there's to much on the main page.. make it simple.. You could always downsize the font one size.. You could also put your navigation on the top of the page with the header instead of to the left.. and then upsize the font on it. .
