I'm just about to release a new site, and wanted to get everyone's thoughts on it. My only concern is the sheer amount of text. What's your opinion?

I personally think that blue and red color schemes clash too much..but you've used it to your advantage. It stands out enough to grab your attention, but is soft enough not to overpower you! :)
There are only a few small things that I caught, aside from tossing out the "No Spam" graphic, shortening the text and adding some more visual interaction:
Your "Associate Log-In Box" on the left. It might help your visitors more if you put something like "Log-In Name" below the first box, and "Password" below the second. Even though you know which input goes where, your clients might not!
I would put a different divider than the colons on the bottom text navigation. Brackets, dashes or even |'s divide quite nicely and are not as straining on the eyes.
It helps if you center the address at the bottom and add the appropriate line breaks between each portion, just like you would write it on an envelope.
Hope this information helps. Good luck with your site!

*sings* I had a picture of you in my mind. Never knew it would be so wrong. */sings*
Someone else mentioned picures. Well I think the most important picture of all is a picture of YOU right next to your welcome message.

I tend to think banners on sites that are selling something are a bit of a distraction

Why would I want a picture of me? it's not my site, just a client's :). I'll take that as a compliment though.

hehe, when I said you i really meant the one which wrote the welcome message and the person behind the site :)
But sure I want your picture too hehe :)

Design is simple and nice but you are right, there is a fair amount of text that i think most people would rather not read.

i would use a different shade of blue....something more stylish.
toooooooooooooooo much text!!!!
you need to tell your client that you're not doing that...i do all the time and they accept it. remember your reputation as a designer is at stake.
go to http://www.tdwaterhouse.com....and spend hours analyzing every inch of their index page....

Great site. The design is great, your choice of font sizes is good.
I disagree with those who say there is too much text. At least at 800x600 I didn't mind that it was a long page, it was at least easy to see what each section of text was so that I could skip what I didn't want to read. The "Site Overview" was helpful in using your site.
The way you put that disclaimer in a textarea is good also.
The only suggestion I can think is that the page seems really really wide for some reason. Maybe it's because you have that skinny left nav and the entire right section is text all the way across, just makes the page seem large.
Load time was good, btw, and the nav mouseovers are great :)

I just looked in Navigator 4.7, it all fits on screen in that.
What's with the link exchanges?

I agree, we're working on getting pictures right now.

There is a whole lot of text. Probably too much text. I suggest having just a simple introduction, and maybe some highlighted features about the site. If you have that much text it's just going to hurt your visitor's heads or they won't even bother reading it. This could make a difference on whether or not visitors will stay on your site.

Agreed also, I'm trying to find ways to keep all the text, but make it more readable.

Plus, it's really annoying to have sites that stretch all the way across my high resolution screen. I hate that. It makes everything look so much worse. I understand you are trying to cater to the audience with a lower resolution and everything, but a lot of us use high resolution monitors in order to better design webpages, so that we have more control of the different windows and everything without having to scroll. Take that into consideration.

The only problem with this last statement, is that the site isn't design for webmasters. It's designed for low tech, not necessarily computer friendly, investors. Do you know of any way to make a table fit a 640x480 monitor, and not expand beyond an 800x600 reolsution? I don't, without a lot of ugly javascript, that probably wouldn't work in Netscape anyway. I browse with a resolution of 1280x1024, but I know that 80-90% of web users view using 800x600, so I design for that, and I browser with my browser un-maximized.
I appreciate you being up front (being nice and cuddly doesn't improve anything). What reminds you of those cheesy gaming sites? I've never been to one, so I'm not sure what you mean there.

I agree!!!! Way too much text for the front page! What you might want to do is keep the welcome message, but then put links to the mission statement and site overview. Instead of having it open a whole new page (full size) you might want to place that text in a smaller pop-up window that opens on a click command.
I do like what you did with the disclaimer in order to save space... I think that will save you some space.
Hope this helps,

Nice site!
The site is very professional, I like the welcome message which makes it more personal. But there is much to much text on the frontpage! Perhaps you should create a site index page with descriptions of all the sections and let people know if they need help navigating the site to check out the site index page. Also, on the navigation buttons on the left, the red borders don't look so great against the blue backround, in my opinion. Perhaps you want to switch them with the mouse-over images (with the white border), which look better, in my opinion. Also, on the pages where there's a lot of writing you might want to split it into two pages. This is usually a good technique with long writings on the internet.
Good job!

Thanks guys, I'm working on cleaning up the text with the client. You should have seen it BEFORE I started cleaning stuff up.
Thanks,

yes theres way too much text on the front page.
however i like the navigation and the effect it has.

Thanks Luqman, I'm going to start working on that text some more. Anyone have any specific ideas on how to improve it?

lose the "no spam" graphic. Looks very good though. One thing I will say is that I'm on 1024x860 and I have to have my window maximised so as not to have a horizontal scrollbar (I often like to work on a few things at once so I don't usually maximise the window)
(abdurrah,im, Indonesia)
What browser are you using? I can look at it on 800x600 and I don't get any scrollbars.

Alright, I'm going to be upfront with you. I'm not going to care about a site that gives me investment advice or whatever that doesn't even look all that professional. The site looks like all those gaming sites, jokes sites, etc that you see out there. I suggest using pictures of people as a way of drawing in your audience. People are refreshing to see as it gives visitors a sense of safety with the site.

Thanks Dan, I appreciate the input. We're making things a little easier to get around as we speak. The client isn't having a very good click through rate from the first page, so we're going to try and tease a bit more.
Thanks again,
