no kitty!
  1. Last night I finished upgrading vBulletin to version 1.1.4. I have reintegrated all the code changes I had previously made. This version is supposed to significantly lower the resources needed from the database and make the system more stable.

We had not experienced some of the problems others had with the program like Animeboards.com but I felt the upgrade was necessary to prevent future problems. Version 2.0 of vBulletin should be released in Late November or Early December so I plan on another upgrade before the end of the year. I will keep everyone posted.

We are also doing nightly backups of the forum data and transferring it via FTP to a backup server, so all information will be saved in the event of a failure.

If anyone experiences any problems in the forums, please post in this thread or let me know directly as I have been handling all vBulletin development issues for SitePoint.

  2. Wayne..why didn't you just download the template files and then re-upload them to the database? You didn't have to do it over :) And if there was anything new to add, I think it would be easier then having to redo all the templates.

  3. Thanks for that werehere...I think it will work now.
I've been hacking the board this morning so its been a bit unstable.

DIdn't even need that backup of the database I made :D
TWTCommish --> As long as you back up your database (through telnet or phpMyAdmin) you should be just fine :)

I just received this error from the forum in your signature:

    Code:

Parse error: parse error in /usr/home/www/freewebsources/edevboards.com/docs/global.php on line 486

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /usr/home/www/freewebsources/edevboards.com/docs/index.php on line 14

    Just so you know. :)

No front end changes yet. I'll admit that I got sidetracked on this and had to deal with more pressing issues. Now that those are finished, I can get back to updating the front-end and making things more efficient.

  7. [list=1][*]I just loaded each pair of files into Textpad[*]Used Textpad's File Compare utility[*]Copied the small amount of changes into the new upgraded files from the 1.1.3 files.[*]Uploaded the Admin Files[*]Ran Upgrade.php and disregarded the change to the one template.[*]Manually made the template change.[*]Uploaded the Main Forum files.[/list=1]

All told it took me about an hour.

  8. Was the upgrade difficult? I've got a board in place with very specific settings and such and I'm worred about upgrading...

Go to the vBulletin support forum and search for "Magic_Quotes" you will find hundreds of answers to your question.

Yes, that is correct. You have to turn them off!

You can use .htaccess files to do that however, since many other scripts may require that to be on (phpmyadmin, etc...).

  16. There was only one template change and I did that manually. It required adding a changing a variable.

I couldn't just use the the upgrade files because there are changes in our code for various reasons. Some of which may be released as hacks or hack add-ons in the future.
