1. im trying to fix my friends computer. It's a minilooking dell from prolly the past 3 years.. but when i go to start it the mobo makes a beeping noice and refuses to start

4. Try searching under a Motherboard Model, see if that returns anything.
   
   Also, those old "mini" computers that Dell made were crap. They didn't have enough cooling in the system and as a result, went bad very quickly. Look very closely at the Mobo and see if you can spot any busted caps. This was a huge problem on the 270. So huge in fact that this model was discontinued very quickly.
   
   Other than that, try swapping out the Mem with some known good stuff. Most beep codes I have encountered have been because of a bad DIMM.

5. would that cause the bios not to come up.. because it doesnt do anything.

6. If you have bad capacitors on the Mobo, it may not do anything at all depending on where the failure is.
   
   If you do have bad caps, you will be able to see them right away. Look for ones that are bulging or have white stuff coming out of them.

7. i got it to boot a little but it comes up saying "NTLDR missing ctrl+alt+del to restart"

8. That could point to a failing HD. Pop in the windows XP cd and go into the repair console.

   How many beeps were heard? Or was it a constant beeping?
