RAID0 - SATA II 150 vs. SATA 2.5 300 ?! ( 3 Views )
-
Greetings,
I have a Maxtor MaXLine III 7B300S0. It most reviews, it seems as if it's the best competetion for a Raptor 74GB. If we could please overlook the infamous following common responses for this thread, please...
1. RAID0 offers no real performance gains for the typical user
2. RAID0 isn't worth it, due to the potential data loss if 1 drive fails
3. Maxtor has a compatibility problem with the nForce4 chipset
4. Raptors will always be faster!
and so on... :) anyways, I am pleased with my 7B300S0's performance, but I am still thinking about trying RAID0 :D Here's the thing, the 7B300S0 is SATA II (150MBps), 7200RPM, 16MB Cache, NCQ... it does extremely well as a single drive... it even outperforms SATA 2.5 (300MBps) drives, since no single drive can currently take advantage of 150M, much less 300M. However, when I see reviews of SATA 2.5 (300M) drives in RAID0, I will commonly see 300+ burst speeds... My question is (finally :p), will the 100MBps interface of the 7B300S0 limit it's performance in RAID0 scenarios... thus making it slower than the same 300M drives it outperformed in single drive situations?!
-Thanks
