PDAs...is iPaq the non-cell way to go? ( 3 Views )

1. I'm doing the clickwork for a friend at work who wants to get her husband a PDA for Xmas. She already ruled out a laptop because a PDA is more portable, so that issue is solid.
   
   I don't have *too much* experience, other than telling her she'd be best to go with a Windows OS for familiarity and compatability wtih PC apps, and that I've had a Palm in the past and missed those qualities enouhg to avoid those models.
   
   She was set on going with a rx1955, but then realized there was no interfact to which a keyboard could connect, so she bumped up to the hx2495, which has Bluetooth. However, while she will spend the extra 100 for that model, I know she would rather save some money, seeing as how she (well, he...) really doesn't need the spec upgrades - especially since the keyboard will cost another $100+.
   
   Sooooo....WHICH PDA do you use? Do you recommend one over another? What about good deals?

2. Currently, I use a Dell Axim x51v. Through the use of a few coupons I was able to pick mine up for around $269 w/ a 2 yr warranty. Not sure how long you could wait for Dell coupons, but even then Dell's are usually cheaper then IPAQ's. From the product specs that I'm looking at I'll compare the two.
   
   -Dell has a 624mHz processor, HP has a 520.
   -Both have bluetooth and wifi capabilities
   -Both use Windows Mobile 5
   -Dell has a 3.7" VGA screen compared to HP's QVGA at 3.5"
   -Dell has more ram
   -HP comes with a longer lasting battery, but both are removable so you could pick up extended batteries for either device
   
   The only HP device that compares to the Dell x50 series of PDA's would be the HP IPAQ 4700. The 4700 costs almost twice as much as a dell if you buy both new. I researched night and day sometimes figuring out which PDA would best suit my needs. Dell also has a much larger support community then IPAQ. I've had my x51v for a week now and if you have anyother questions i'll try to answer them.
