The most challenging question of the month!!! ( 4 Views )
Here is what I am trying to do. I have a powerpoint slideshow that everyone in our company needs to view. I will send out the link through Outlook to this slideshow to all of the employees. After they scroll through all of the slides I would like a page to pull their outlook profile and shoot it off in a form to a certain email address. The info we want to get is in their properties, general tab. That way we know exactly who has and who hasnt viewed the slide show. We want it to pull the information so that employees cant enter someone elses info in there without them reading the slide show.
Does anyone out there know of a way to do this? If I can figure out how to pull out one of the fields from the properties I will be able to figure out how to pull the rest of them out as well.
Also if you have any other ideas of how to guarantee that a certain person has viewed the slide show without just entering in false information.
Any input will be greatly appreciated, thank you...

Call microsoft.
Really you're asking for something thats really hard to do.
You want something to interface with a website, outlook on the clients computer, and powerpoint.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say its impossible.
Even if it was possible I'm sure you'd have to pay a windows programmer many thousands to do it.
But having a website interface with a program on a clients computer is a huge security risk. It may be possible with java but I'm not sure. But they might not even all have outlook on their systems.
If you want to be able to do things with this you need to stop relying on these microsoft products, you need to make your own.
You could feasibly do this:
1. Make a slideshow in flash and a website to go with it.
2. Make employees log on to view it using some pw/username combo you give them, if they don't already have such a system for your company.
3. track progress through the slideshow using common tracking code and store the info in a database.
4. create a website back end that lets you search through the database and display exactly who has looked at what slides etc.
You need to learn alot more about computers.

Everyone does have Outlook. Its a standard in the Marine Corps. Heres the dilema, making pages for the Marine Corps I am restricted in exactly what I can do. I have been thinking about maybe having the user enter their name and email, and then having it automatically email them a special password to logon to that only works for their name. That might be a possible. Thanks for your help though

If you have Office 2000 then:
Have one of your Visual Basic or Office developers create a Visual Basic script to embed in the actual presentation.
This script can build and send the email in the background while the presentation is running. It isn't that difficult but everyone will need Outlook and PowerPoint installed on their System. The viewer for PowerPoint 2000 might also work. You can download the viewer free at Officeupdate.microsoft.com/.
Overall the script should take no more than an hour to create, test and distribute.
