OEM Computer Needs update.. i need ur advice ( 2 Views )

1. Hi, I have a Compaq Presario with a Pentium 4 2.4GHZ with HT...
   and a motherboard model ASUS P4SD-LA...
   
   my dilemma is that I need a better video card to play games like AOE3 and NFS:Most wanted... so the computer has a little tiny 300watt PSU and a 9600 PRO 128MB...
   
   I am planning on upgrading to an NVidia 6800 and upping the PSU to a 400watt...
   
   Question is.. is my CPU + Mobo still worth it along with these upgrades?
   
   I am planning on getting a motherboard with PCI-e and sticking in an AMD CPU
   Maybe an athlon 64 3000+ or 3200+. What do you guys think?
   
   which will be better for my gaming? The P4 set up or the AMD set up?

   If you get a pci-e mobo, your amd setup will definitely kill your intel one.
   
   You might as well build a new computer, your already getting a new mobo, processor, graphics card, and psu

3. yea thats what I thought... originally.. i jus wanted to upgrade my video card.... but then I need somethin more than 300watt PSU.. then my gf bought a new LCD monitor but her comp is whack so im giving her my Mobo + CPU.. and video card (so it her LCD monitor is well worth it) so yea...
   
   but the problem is im poor. i cant afford to build a whole new PC right now.. *sigh* I only have like 350$ to spend and shes helping me since im giving her pretty much my old computer .. so that leaves me with 500$ to spend (CANADIAN)

5. that websites using USD... so that 516 total there is probably about $610 and the taxes too... 610 + 15% tax . comes up to 700 Canadian :p some $500 gaming rig :(
