X1800XT Pricing ( 2 Views )

no kitty!
  1. I just did a Froogle search on the X1800XT and noticed that the price has come down to $523.80 at one place and is close to that at a few others. I'm going to purchase this card soon and I was wondering if you folks had any guesses as to when the price might stabilize and how much it will cost at that point?

  2. I wouldn't wait around too long. Evidence is suggesting that ATI will cut production on R520 cores in the next month (and they will stop showing up in stores in February) in order to make way for the R580.

It's possible that prices may never completely "stabilize".

Hrmm, man I hate the waiting game! Is there any "evidence" pointing to an approximate relase of the R580? Also, what is the evidence that points towards the end of production being this month and the end of easy access being February? I guess I could turn to e-bay if I wanted to do SLI at some point. I'd hate to end up w/a stinker if the R580 was a really big upgrade though.

There have been several threads floating around that have discussed this topic:

Of course, everything is still speculation and it's possible that ATI will have another delay and we won't be seeing the R580 until sometime next fall :( .

As for waiting, don't. In the tech industry, stuff moves so fast that if you play the waiting game you'll end up never buying anything. I'm currently planning on buying the X1800XL to go along with my new rig this christmas regardless of the fact that a whole new series of cards could be coming out a month after.

In the end, it doesn't matter how fast the R580 is, the X1800XT will still be an awsome card and will give you great gaming performance for a long time ;) .

why the hell would ATI cut production on a core that was just released? if anything, they'd cut the previous generations, but cutting the current generation is just retarded.

  6. hold on..........i dont see hard evidence on this "stopping of production" seems to make ppl think things...so jsut wait and see. no speculation needed. in my record book the x1800 XT is a GREAT card.

  7. I doubt we'll see R580 until at least April/May at the earliest.

  8. If I were you I would plan on paying 550 for your X1800XT and try to find a place that might ship it with a bundle like a game or mobo something anything. 523 isn't too bad but I would possibly wait for a bundle for a wee bit longer or just outright buy it now :).

  9. Almost $700 Canadian (dollars for real men) at ncix. Which actually is quite cheap compared to the non-existant 512mb 7800gtx. :)

I wouldn't really go as far as saying that since I have two of them in my rig now :). I have to say though for the money they cost there sure is alot of demand and I mean alot. Money hand over fist is the term I would be using if I worked at Nvidia :p too bad I see none of it :(.

  13. Alright, thanks for all of the input guys. It seems, from what I'm hearing, that the price is already becoming stable. I really would like to purchase a card with a bundle but I may not be able to hold out that long! ;)

Now, on to selecting a motherboard and processor! (to X2 or not X2...hrmmmm)

Sorry, I was referring to Canada. Ncix had 2 - 7800gtx 512mb cards so far - and none coming for a few days at least. But I do agree with you that without competition, we are at the mercy of gouging by NV and the likes.
