3000+ OC with stock fan ( 3 Views )

no kitty!
  1. I am sure this question has been asked before, but what is a safe OC on a 3000+ with a stock fan/heatsink. I don't really want to spend the money on an extra heatsink, becuase this is for a file server... I have to OC everything, this one I don't want to overdue

  2. the oc isn't what matters, the voltage and temps do. try to keep it under 50c at full load, and don't go crazy with the voltage

  3. Well true, I guess the question needs to be rephrased.... What is the best OC I can hope for without a voltage change. My assumption is that, long as I don't change the voltage the temps should be about the same, correct idea?

  4. You can probably put 1.45V or so into your CPU with stock cooler. You should just stay away from more than that even if your board can put it out. Depending on your week and stepping, you could probably get 2.4-2.6Ghz. 2.4Ghz is pretty normal.

  5. I say go as far as you can. The 50*c mark doesnt really matter at all. My chip runs 24/7 at up to 63*c Full Torture Load.

  6. this is my 3000+ w/ stock heatsink: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=18030

  7. I guess it doesn't matter how hot it runs if you can afford to slap another one in there if it breaks :). It's not like they are that expensive nowadays anyway (relatively speaking of course).

  8. Are you having any problems with the DFI mobo and the ValueSelect ram?

I have a DFI board...nf4 ultra-D...and from browsing the dfi-streets forums. They recommend that you don't buy value ram as the DFI boards are picky with what hardware you place in it.

  10. I bumped my wifes to 2.2ghz with the stock hsf and temps stay below 50c. For somewhat mild overclocking, that hsf is actually not that bad (course I wouldnt ever raise voltage using it, or go above what I did :) ).

I second that. I am currrently running 1 gig of Corsair Value Ram and had all kinds of problems when I first built the machine. It took a lot of tweaking before I finally got it to work and my machine still reboots ocassionally, especially when gaming. I will eventually upgrade either to some OCZ or Corsair XMS.

Back to the subject, I have a 3200 Venice core that I am wanting to accomplish the same thing with using stock cooling. Should I get some better RAM before I attempt it?
