Cheap Video Card Suggestionos....Please help ( 1 Views )

1. So im building a new computer for my gf and i was going to be using the MSI PM8M-V microATX mobo and it has S3 Graphics UniChrome 2D/3D as its onboard video. Im looking for a cheap AGP card that will play DVDs and some games and still perform nicely. All sugeestions are much appreciated. Thank you.
   
   I was thinking of maybe a 9250 or a 9550 or a 9600.

5. With that kind of budget, I would look at picking a used 9800Pro or similar on the FS/FT board.

6. A used 9800pro would be a good bet. If you want something new and don't mind going a bit over $100 (say, $110), there are some 8-pipe 6600 and X700 cards around that price range.

   I almost forgot about that. The non-hypermemory 6200s are 6600 chips aren't they? Still, you have to be careful with those. 64-bit memory busses are evil.

10. do yourself a favor and get a x700 refurb off newegg.
    they have 256 of memory the core is a derivitive of the x800 core and they over clock pretty darned spiffily. I had one and love it till I dropped it and the core cracked:(
    
    you are stuch with 128mb with the 6600's you don't have to make that sacrifice with the ATI and even though it never got much press it compares to the 6600 about as the x800 compares to the 6800, in other words they are about equal but you get the benifit of more memory on the ati card which let me run AA and ANISO without a second thought.
    
    I only run 1600x1200 too as thats all my dell lcd plays nice with, I couldn't turn up the candy in doom 3 but I could in half life and in CSS
    
    EDIT: I f'ed up the agp 6600 have 256mb its the pci-e ones that only had 128mb. my bad
    my second choice would be a AIW 9700 pro since it has the 256bit memory interface but I still think the x700 is a better card but the all in wonders are very nice. either one can be had for 100 bux refurb on newegg, you got 15 days to break it so I never worry too much about refurb stuff and its great deals. my whole system is "refurb"
