Need an AGP board (restrictions apply) ( 3 Views )

no kitty!
  1. A friend of mine is looking for an AGP mobo that can run X2 chip, but the case can’t fit mobo larger then 14” by 9” (I will have the case on Wednesday, probably; I will then get the accurate measurement). We’re looking for stability and performance. No OC will be done at any point.

    He’s currently looking at X2 +3800 and X2 +4400. (he’ll need a RAM too).

    I found this on egg:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127181

But I’m not sure if this will fit (again, I’ll get back to you on Wednesday, in worst case I’ll try to cut anything that prevents him from getting bigger mobo).

I looked on ZZF, but they don’t show mobo measurements, and it’s a little hard to just eye-ball it.

Also, the minimum of 2 PCI slots is a must.

He multitasks a lot (3ds max, photoshop, winamp, net and some other junk) hence the X2. Moderate gaming will be done on this too (HL2, FEAR, CoD2, NFS, Oblivion… when it comes out… and some more).

The reason behind AGP mobo is his graphic card he doesn’t want to upgrade - 800XT (I’m guessing it’s a budget thing).

I’d appreciate your help. Thank you.

  3. Thanks. It won’t run X2, but I guess he should be happy with 4000+ San Diego.

  4. It'll run an X2. The specs are mislabeled there. And yes, I think that's a great choice for an AGP setup at this point...opens up pci-e for the future. Apparently that board turned out to be a very impressive one.

  5. edit...

    great, thanks.

  6. It will work, if its any assurance look for the BIOS updates, I know 1.4 adds Opteron support... I think they listed cpu support that they added on the revision list. Iam running bios 1.3 and my opteron is detected okay, not a x2 though just a 146.

Funny, I'm running a x2 3800+ right now on this board. Great to have the PCIE SATA2 and Socket M2 options for the future too.

Yeah, I just read the support list on the manufactures website, so it’s all good. Thanks for the input guys.
