(2) 7800 GT CO SLI vs (1) 7800 GTX 512mb ( 3 Views )
-
I was just curious....I currently have a evga 7800 GT CO and was thinking about upgrading it. Is there much of a performance gain to go from 2 GT COs to 1 512mb GTX?
I can do the evga step up program which will cost me about $300-350 for the 512mb GTX or I can just buy another GT CO for about the same price. I would probably have to upgrade my PSU from the Neo 480 to something better. What do you guys think is the better option? Its not going to be an immediate thing as I am going to wait till the GTXs prices come down a bit.
Thanks!!

I think you should go with the 512mb.
A) Your PSU is fine
B) 512mb is more futureproof compared to 2 cards.

Forgot to mention....I have a 19" Samsung LCD monitor (915n) non-widescreen
comp stats are in the sig

I was thinking about only upgrading the PSU if I did the SLI....something above 500W. I do agree that the 512 is more futureproof plus I can always get another 512 for SLI when the prices hit rock bottom

does anybody know what the performance increase would be between the two?

I was under the impression that they were about the same, w/ the 512mb GTX beating GT SLI slightly. Why don't you look at the [H] review or one of the other reviews posted on the news of the main site if you have questions? The benchmarks are right there.

7800GT SLI is alittle better depending upon the game, but not by much

The 2 GT's would be the offer better performance especially with AA at higher resolutions. As for the future you would be able to buy another 7800GTX 512 in the future where-as you would be stuck with both slots filled with the 2 GT's.

yes.. same thing with teh 6800 SLI or a single 7800....
IMO, whoever already has SLI 7800.. stick with it.... if u have a single 7800.. or nothing yet... sell the 7800 and grab teh 512mb one

cool...thanks guys thats what i was thinking
probably going to step up to the 512....just going to wait a bit

Get the 512mb GTX.... I mean it will save your power bill by only running 1 GPU.
And later on you can get another 512mb bad boy or if you wait long enough Nvidia's next big GPU.
