nF3 woes... ( 2 Views )

no kitty!
  1. nF3 woes...computer wont POST

So I bought and destroyed my DFI nF3 Ultra-D...i think the chipset blew...

So then i revert back to my via board, before i get the MSI K8N Neo2 Plat in my sig.

I install the board and it works fine, until yesterday. Im playing fear and it crashes into BSOD...then every time i try to load a game BSOD. This points to the memory- so i look at my DDR booster, and teh memory is a little off...i correct it and the game loads fine. I play for a little longer, then exit to windows and then the computer just starts BSODing like every 5 minutes. So i was like "fuck it" im going to cut the memory back...strangly, the only dividers that work were 133 and 183...the rest just did not work.

Then finally, i restart the computer, and no POST screen. I clear CMOS, nothing. Take the battery out for an hour, nothing. Take the memory out, no POST...I dont get it...the fans spin and everything powers on, but no signal is sent to the monitor.

2 things that might help diagnose the problem:

Almost every BSOD pointed to ntfs.sys
The PSU makes that clicking sound like its restarting about every 10 seconds when i boot up and there is no POST.

Anyone know what i need to do? I have not verified it is infact the mobo, because i have not switched it out yet...thats a pain in hte ass and i want to ask you all if there is a way to fix this first.

    Thank you.

  4. vcore: 1.4 + 10%
    vdimm ~3.1v via DDR Booster.

  5. Pull out all your ram and see if you can get those annoying ram malfunction beeps.

O? CF thinks it was that article on too much voltage to the ram but normal to cpu = toasted cpu?

  6. What does this have to do with NF3 chipset?

  7. OK, all componants work fine in the mobo im typing on right now. It is completely a mobo issue.

I just pulled out my video card and put an old PSU on the mobo...so it was just the PSU, mobo and video card. Same problem. All the fans spin as soon as i give power to the PSU...kinda wierd, since they usually wait for the power button. Also, the monitor says "no signal" even though its "off" (the power stays orange, doesnt turn green like it usually does when i get that message). Its the only time the monitor does that.

and it has to do with nF3 because its the second nF3 mobo that has died on me, while my Via has always been there.

  8. No no no, it's not the chipset, it's the design of that board.

I've heard alot about that board, and I for one would NEVER buy one.

  9. So i dont have a D-Bracket, but how do i make it do the beeping to identify the problem?

  11. CMOS battery is dead. Had to RMA an msi board in a system I built for a friend of a friend because it ate batterys every 3 weeks. Pop a new one in and try that,
