ASUS V9999GT and ASROCK 939DUAL problems ( 2 Views )

no kitty!
  1. I'm having a critical problem during the installation. I searched this forum and found a similar problem wrote a while ago. Towards the end of that topic there was a "fix" but didn't work for me. This is the email I'm writting to Uli/Asrock so I better copy paste not to write the same again:

    Hello,

    I just purchased a product with one of your chipsets, the Asrock 939DUAL-SATA2. With the instalation I followed this prodecure:

    - It was a brand new HDD, so I formatted it (NTFS)
    - I installed Windows XP pro 32 bit, with Service Pack 1 (Also tried with SP2, no positive results)
    - I installed the latest DirectX version (9.0c)
    - I installed the Motherboard drivers which came with the CD (Version AA14b)
    * Onboard sound drivers -> reboot -> fine
    * CPU drivers -> reboot -> fine
    * Lan drivers -> reboot -> fine
    * USB 2.0 drivers -> reboot -> fine
    * AGP drivers (ULi_AGP_2.30Eng) -> reboot -> fine

    All these drivers are the latest version, the same you can find on http://www.asrock.com/support/Downlo...Dual-SATA2.htm

    - Then I proceed to install the latest official certificated Nvidia drivers (81.85). During the instalation, the usual screen "flick" when reloading the driver happens, but in the second "flick", the computer freezes. It auto reboots. Then, when loading windows, it freezes at the point when the mouse cursor shows up for the first time, just before the "welcome" screen, while the graphic driver loads up I assume.
    - I repeated these steps serveral times, with 10 different official Nvidia drivers, and with the 3 different versions of the integrated Uli driver which I could find here: http://www.uli.com.tw/eng/support/drivers.php (these versions are 2.0963, 2.0964 and 2.1). The same result every time: a system lockup.
    - I tried not installing the AGP driver of the motherboard. Then everything is stable, but of course, the videocard is detected as PCI 0x, hence giving very low framerates on high bandwidth demanding applications. And if I install first the Nvidia driver, and then the AGP motherboard driver, I get a lockup as before.
    - Therefore my conclusion is that some kind of incompatibility problem causes inestability. I tried the graphics card on a different compunter and it's fine. Also the RAM. I have a 500 Watts power supply so I think it's fine. I PLEASE ask you to fix this issue throught a patch, or some information.
    - If it's any help, these are my PC specs:

    * CPU: AMD 64 3000+ Venice core, never overclocked.
    * MOTHERBOARD: Asrock 939DUAL-SATA2, 1.20 BIOS, default settings (via clear CMOS jumper). Tried different settings for AGP (8x, 4x, every possible apperture size, every possible graphic inizalitation: AGP, PCI, PCI-E), with no positive results.
    * RAM: 2x512 Kingston Value Ram PC3200 in Dual Channel (Tried in single channel, even with a single stick of this and other brand ram, still no positive results)
    * GRAPHICS CARD: Asus V9999GT AGP 256GDDR3. Information through Rivatuner:

    Please note that I got this information while running it in my old system, which does not use the Asrock 939DUAL motherboard nor an ULI/ALI Chipset. Also, and this might be important, it detects the card as a NV48 chip, which might not be the NV40 I'm aware you tested in your labs (V9999Ultra)

    * Sony DVD writer

    - I know that this problem is not an isolated one. Lots of people are getting exactly the same with this card or simmilar Nvidia 6800's ones:

  2. this wouldn't work with my EVGA 6800gs 256mb. i bought the mobo specifically to hang onto this card until later in the year, because prices are a bit high imo....

    but now that it doesnt work, i sold it for 100 bucks and bought a pci-e 7600 instead. oh well... but i totally share in your frustration bro.

    hope it all worked out

    edit: meant to say that i had the EXACT same problem... everything got all fubar'd once the nvidia driver went in. i've tried everything, 3rd party drivers, manual installs, blah... it is simply incompatible, which is dissapointing.

    a good board otherwise, with my old gf3ti200 in here in the meantime the thing blazes and is rock solid.
