My first time experience with Linux. Some questions for RedHat guru ( 10 Views )
I just installed RedHat 7.0, quite a few challenge thing, but I managed to overcome those (one time got a bug report message & several times halted and was monkeying, trying to get to GUI)
Well, now I could use login choosing between Gnome or KDE.
Have to say "wow" :) RedHat is really impressive! Very inituitive!
Here are some questions, please help :)
1. I'm trying to dual boot between Windows98 and RedHat.
Linux is on a logical partition, if choose to boot from that partition, the system didn't comply (and on the Linux drive, only 2 files). So I have to use the floppy disk (which was created when installation), but that's inconvenient.
How could I get Linux boot from HDD (or better, dual boot system of Partition Magic 5.0)
2. The graphical interfaces of KDE and Gnome are really cool.
However, why it's so big? I tried to find the place to resize the screen (resolution/color depth), but couldn't find! Tried Xconfigurator, but didn't seem to work.
3. What is X window? Is it another interface like KDE/Gnome?
Since in my school terminals (I believe they use Unix), I remember that it's X-Window and text commands are used most of the time, not graphical stuff like Gnome/KDE
Newbie in Linux world! Please show me the way!
Great thanks

There is LOT'S of X window managers, check http://themes.org
they got links to most popular.
To changer resolution, run:
XF86Setup, as root, not in X.
Good luck.

Oh yeah, about partions...
There a app called lilo, it's a LInux LOader, which is installed by default. It will do the job better then
buggy $$$ magic or whatever.
Just run:
liloconfig
and add winblowz partion and linux partion, name them, put
like 10 sec to wait before it will boot to default os.
hope this helps.
good luck again.
