hmmm transfer speeds ( 3 Views )

1. o.k I have an HP Procurve 4000m as my "core" switch..... Its taking around 3-5minutes to copy 1.32GB..... from my file server to another workstation thats without any load on the switch does this seem slow?

2. No that would appear spot on, depending upon your client machines. Assume only will ever hit a max of 80% from a client - at 100Mb/s that is 80Mb/s i.e ~9.5MB/s (factoring in 1000-> 1024 conversion) 3 mins = 180s = ~ 1.7GB.
   
   therefore your clients are probably only getting around 60% throughput, fairly normal depending on your hardware. Server to workstation is always lower - the io in a typical workstation can vary rarely keep with a constant stream of data over the network (depending on bus chipset, shared resources, hard disk speeds etc etc etc)
