6800 Ultra Power Issues ( 2 Views )

no kitty!

  1. For those that cant' read this horrible screen shot it says:

"The NVIDIA System Sentinel is reporting that the NVIDIA-powered graphics card is not receiving sufficient power.

To protect your hardware from potential damage or causing a potential system lockup, the graphics processor has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operations."

    What a bunch of bullshit.

I have an Antec TrueControl 550w powering 2 raptors and a dvd burner along with the 6800ultra. Other devices are connected to a different power supply. I am OC'ing my CPU to 224mhz and running my cpu voltage at 1.675v and DRAM at 2.8v. Does OC'ing affect this? Should I upgrade to a new PS?

  2. did you plug power into the video card?

    (metriks, Paraguay)

  3. Yeah you usually get that message when you didn't plug-in the connector to the video card.

Yea I have power plugged into both of them. Perhaps I'll try different using different plugs from the PS.

  5. it is probably a software fluke, and not a real problem with your PSU

i'd try a clean uninstall and re-install of the latest video card driver

No it's not a software fluke. I uninstalled my driver. Rebooted. Windows detected the new device and installed a driver for it. I then updated to nvidia's 77.72 driver. Same old message. This is quite bothersome. My 3dmark05 benchmarks have gone from 5500+ to 2800+ because of this problem.

  7. I was finally able to reboot and not receive that warning message so far. All I did was use two plugs from different wires instead of two plugs being split off eachother. So far I'm able to increase the clock settings and not get a failed test.

  8. Yah, thats the problem. I've heard of Ultras not liking voltage off the same wire.

    (serpil, Mexico)

  9. the psu wires were probably bad, that sucks. i would get a new psu but i guess you could wait and see if other wires start to go bad first.

  10. So far so good. I have my 6800 Ultra at 470/1.195ghz at 1.6v. So far this appears to be my limit without having to increase the AGP volts again.

  11. Try upping the core voltage going to the card by modding the BIOS. THere's a guide to it somewhere in the video/card forum. I think the Ultra defaults at 1.4v, but you could probably do 1.5v if temps remain fine

Yeah, definitely. Officially you have to use plugs from different leads...that's what nvidia specs for the card. That's why I like my pci-e version so much more, since it just have the one pci-e connector instead of the two molexes.

  13. man u guy's ultra's clocks so good... I got a dud big time :( man..... O well.... 443/1.12 aint all that bad i guess... and I am too afraid to run it overclocked 24/7 anyways.. :P

  14. Your core isn't bad at all, 450 I think is the average (I could be wrong :p). I got my GT (1.3v) only to 425 stable, but that's cause it doesn't like extra voltage :(. I'm very shocked that cnick got his to 473, that's outstanding. However, 1.12 on your memory, especially with the relaxed timings that ultras have, there seems to be a problem. My first question would be what's your cooling? And then what's your PSU?

DUD... but anyways before... my cooling is stock with antec smartpower 450watt with 20amps on the 12v rail and the temp was like... 51-52 idle... and load is about 77 with rivatuner...

now.... it's still stock cooling.. but I made my own pci slot cooler... with an 80mm fan.. and I idle 47 and load around 70..and I also bought a new psu.. antec truepower -2 550watter.. and I still get the same clocks :P so I can really say it's a DUD!! anyways no biggy... but if ya can help then I would be really happy. O yah and when I bump the vcore up I can hit 455 but I rather not :P

  16. Try better cooling. I and many others on the forum have bought a Zalman VF-700Cu kit and it has worked wonders for us, you should check it out for ~$30

The stock voltage on my 6800 ultra is 1.55v. I could only get my OC to 456/1.195ghz on 1.55v. When I upped the AGP to 1.6v I max out at 470/1.195ghz. It's strange how I couldn't get my memory any higher, just the core.

I just got done playing BF2 for at least 6 hours straight and my GPU temp was 46c and ambient was 39c. Now I'm sitting idle at GPU 41c - Ambient 30c. Without this 80mm fan blowing on the back of the card my ambient is even with my core, 41c.

No, that's your AGP voltage that you set in the BIOS, it's a little different. I'm talking about the voltage that goes to the core on the card (equivalent to the vcore on a CPU). When people say they "volt-modded" their video cards, this is what they are talking about (you can do the same for the RAM on the card too). GT's run at 1.3v and Ultra's run at 1.4v. However, Ultras have the capability to take more voltage better because of the extra molex connector and better circuitry. The only way to change this voltage is to re-flash the card with a modded BIOS or do some soldering. Read the guide on [H] though
