water cooling options for lga 775? ( 1 Views )
-
Hi!
I had a 2.8 which i was quite happy with and it ran 3.3ghz at 49(load) degrees which i was pretty happy with. i however have now got a 3.6 which is running now at 63 degrees at 3.8ghz, it will go much higher my fsb is only at 211, but i dont want to push the chip any hotter so am looking into water cooling..
ive never built a water cooling setup before so would like a kit. I notice asetek have one and also thermaltake bigwater, but havent seen reviews on these and am ruling out the bigwater as I want something that can cool my pci-e x800 too..
also while my 2.8 was great at undervolting, this one sucks and i cant get lower than 1.3625 without it switching itself off (my 2.8 managed to get to 1.264 even overclocked to 3.3), so thats one cooling option out
if anyone is water cooling their lga 775 id love to hear about it!

go to frozencpu.com and make a 'custom kit'. its a check off list with what you want in each category and it totals it up etc, so its easy to make. they carry the only LGA775 waterblock right now, whch is the polarflo cpu block as seen here:
http://www.polarflo.com/index.asp?Pa...PROD&ProdID=54
you can make a custom kit without a cpu block and just add that to their cart.
BTW: what vcore did you use to get past 3.3ghz

if there is any way possible, get stuff from somewhere other than frozencpu...their prices are inhumane to animals and people alike...do urself a favor and dont' take it in the ass...buy somewhere else ;)
such as www.dangerden.com (do a kit w/o a block) or www.dtekcustoms.com (a little more $$$ and you can get almost everything there)...if they don't have the block, u can get it from frozencpu, or check like pricewatch....

Danger Den or D-Tek is fine too. Wherever you want really, places don't matter, prices do :) I've purchased stuff form Frozen CPU and didn't get gouged on prices. They have the Innovatek valves I wanted to make a drain for my water cooling system for half the price that High Speed PC wanted for them.
All you need is a block for the LGA socket, Danger Den makes them in TDX, probably RBX. Then a decent pump, a heatercore and shroud, and a res or fill cap. Danger Den has the new bay res that Swiftech and D-Tek are also selling, as well as very nice and blingy fill caps. Buy them seperately or in "kit" form and choose the tubing size and expensive or cheap, then add the additives like Water Wetter or any anti-corrosive and dye if wanted.

at 3.3ghz i was using a seriously low 1.232 and it was running fine, ut2004 for a couple hours, ud+folding at home on all night, disk defrag, on without reset for a week or two fine.
I tried to get it above 3.3 but even pushing the vcore up to 1.4v would not boot (would post, just not boot). i think my sata raid is stopping me from pushing the fsb any further :(
my new 3.6 however is crazy hot and i need to move the heat off the chip before i can see what its limit is :)

Did you notice dangerdens stuff is exactly the same price on their own site as Frozencpu or do u take it up the ass buying direct from DD as well?

That's why I don't understand why a lot of ppl claim Frozen CPU is price jacking, I've gotten stuff cheaper there than I've found elsewhere. Nearly all of the good water cooling parts made in the US are going to be in the same price bracket, no matter where they're purchased from.

well, i wasn't just talking about watercooling...just in general their prices are usually higher (even slightly more) than other places...they also have some things that are hard to find elsewhere, so the slightly higher price is sometimes worth it...but yes, i will admit, dangerden is on the expensive side as well...i got my pump there, though, for about $19 less than dtek and i got 10' of tubing AND the pump for about $10 cheaper than the pump itself at dtek...but oh well...
