Can't use extra MX510 buttons in games, what gives? ( 2 Views )

1. Hello all. I just purchased a Logitech MX510 Gaming Mouse. I was all excited about configuring the extra buttons in my games and so far my games don't recognize them. I can't do anything with them. The main game I play is Black Hawk Down and I don't know how to get it to recognize the extra buttons.
   
   Anyone else have this problem? Do I simply need to reinstall the mouseware software?
   
   Any help would be appreciated.

2. a couple of things could be hapening. If you installed the drivers that came with it then they're not called "mouse4" and "mouse5" anymore and they won't work with any game. if you didn't install the drivers and just plugged it in then the game itself might not support 4 or 5 buttons. check for a patch, or you might just be out of luck

I don't know why I didn't mention this before, I guess I was having a major brain fart or something, but while installing the mouseware software, right after it was basically done with the main part of installation, my little 1 1/2 year old daughter decided it would be fun to reset my computer. I thought I was totally screwed at first but when windows came back up it seemed to recognize my mouse as an MX510. Everything appears to work fine except for the extra buttons inside games.
   
   Anyone know if I decide to reinstall the software if I should uninstall what was installed first or would it be ok to just reinstall over the current?

   I would uninstall and reinstall after.
   
   Either way they won't work in games, well they will but only to a certain extent. You can bind them to a key and use that ingame, but they will not show up as Button 3, 4, 5, etc.

5. which buttons are you telking about? When playing counterstrike I can set the two thumb buttons to do stuff and they show up as mouse4 and mouse5 i think. However, you cant set the 3 buttons near the scroll wheel

6. Thanks for all the replies everyone, I appreciate it. Yeah, I'm talking mainly about the two thumb buttons, 4 and 5. Whenever I'm in Blackhawk Down and I try to remap them to do whatever, the game just doesn't recognize them when I press them. It won't let me remap them. As far as binding them is concerned, how would I go about doing that? I've never done that before unless you're talking about doing the remap from within the games options menu.

7. don't use mouseware... it blows... if you just use the windows native, most games should show the thumb buttons as mouse 4 and 5... the buttons on the top and bottom of the scroll wheel will never be anything but the wheel function... they're natively mapped to that

8. i usually just use the mouse software to set my buttons to the matching keyboard keys, works perfectly...as soon as i can break my habit of using the keyboard instead of the new mouse keys...i'll be happy
