Here's what Chumbo said about BFG 6800 Ultra Availability ( 4 Views )

no kitty!
  1. I sent an e-mail to customer service, and they told me to call sales at
    1-800-343-7530 extension 1.

I asked when they would have the BFG 6800 Ultra OC back in stock. He said next week sometime. I asked why it has been out of stock. He didn't really know, said BFG just doesn't have them, but they do have the GT package deal.
Told me the best advice is to get on the mailing list.

Then I asked why the water block version is not listed on the web site. He said that product has been discontinued and they were told to take it off their site. WHY? I want one. Anyone have the answer?

Fry's still has the card listed on their web site. Is something wrong with the BFG 6800 Ultra OC Water Block version?????
I planned on buying this card with the Exos-AI, that would be an easy hook up.

    Thanks.

  3. I just ordered my BFG 6800 Ultra OC last week from this website for $554 with shipping.

    LINK: http://computerbrain.com/application...u=BFGR68256UOC

on that site it is now up to $579.99, but it is in stock... goto price watch there are a few more sites with it in stock maybe a little cheaper. ;)

  4. They may have pulled the waterblock version since I've seen a lot of people buying a normal Ultra and pulling off the stock heatsink to put on their own block, so sales might have been pretty low.

I got my BFG 6800 Ultra from Chumbo 7 days after I put an order in, timing couldnt have been any better. :D

I would almost believe that, but if you take a BFG 6800 Ultra OC, and take off the stock fan, you still need your own water block, and the one from Exos costs $60. The differance between the Ultra OC and Water block version is $100. Doncha think people would spend the $40 differance knowing the card is ready out of the box? I would. Unless you want both options of air and water cooling just in case.

I dunno, just checked Frys site again, water block card is listed as special order. Something is up. Anyone heard any rumors???

I'll call Frys tomorrow and ask them, but the sales person probably won't know much.

  6. chumbo rocks. i've rarely had the treat of talking with such kind, helpful people on the phone. i had a really annoying glitch with my credit card when i ordered my bfg 6800gt(a cancelled compusa order had been authorized and the card company were being poky as all hell getting the phantom charge off my account) and they were extremely understanding and treated me great. i would do business with them again in a heartbeat.

p.s. rot in hell best buy

Very valid point, most people I"ve seen doing it themselves are the ones making their own block, which is something only the true [H] would do. I tossed out it as a slim shot theory at best.

I've yet to test the waters of watercooling, though it has intrigued me for quite some time. Perhaps once I upgrade my box again I'll use the old parts to build a watercooled system to test with. Lord knows I'd love to be able to run this 6800 Ultra at cooler temps than air gets it to, and watercooling would be the route to do it.

  9. I reckon nVidia and ATI badly underestimated the demand for their new cards. They could have made a fortune, but all i see is "out of stock".

  10. BFG = sux

I just recently bought a BFG 6800 GT OC version from Best Buy. Bad news. I installed it and got nothing but artifacts. It was artifacting just in web browsing alone. So I took it back and got a replacement. Installed the next one and the 2D artifacting stopped, but it was artifacting really bad in 3D apps. So I got a refund and ordered a eVGA 6800 GT from newegg.com on sale for $397. I'm probably going to get the Danger Den water block soon. I'm not impressed with BFG at all. I called their customer support and they said that 90% of the people who bought this card were having problems just like me. I also noticed something else that was pretty bad.

My temps were like 68C idle. So I took of the heatsink to have a look. They use some crappy thermal paste for the GPU and they have these thick thermal pads on the RAM. Not good cooling at all for a card that comes overclocked. So I added some AS5 and reinstalled the card and my temps went down 10C. So yea, BFG might have a Lifetime warranty, but their cards suck in my opinion. I heard alot of people were having good results with the eVGA and PNY versions, and those are the cheapest.

So I'll see how it goes when I get my new eVGA model in the mail this week. I don't plan on overclocking much until I get water cooling set up, but I might try to tweak the BIOS a bit. We'll see when the time comes. For now I just want one that works.

My advice to people getting a BFG is just don't get one. I think they suck.

Also as far as the artifacting. I did a slew of testing. Here are my specs as I can assure everyone that this was not a power supply related issue.

    Pentium 4 2.6C @ 3.510 Ghz
    1024 Mbs OCZ PC4200 EL DDR - 1:1 @ 275Mhz
DFI LANParty Pro 875P Revision B.1
PC Power & Cooling TurboCool 510 Deluxe PSU
    2 X 120Gb Western Digital SE Caviar ATA 100 in RAID 0
    SONY DVD-RW DRU-510A
    JLMS-HD166S

All of this is cooled with the following custom water cooling system that is all running through 1/2in I.D. Clearflex 60 tubing.

    PolarFLO SF P4 CPU Waterblock
Danger Den P4 Z-Chip (on Northbridge)
1986 Caprice Classic Heatercore with 2 X 120mm Sunon fans and custom shroud.
Danner Mag 7 pump (sealed & submerged in 6.5 gallon resevior)
CriticCool PowerPlant II PCI Relay card

Idle temps on CPU ar 32C - 36C Load

Now mind you, the system has no fans at all running except for the 2 x 120mm Sunons on the heatercore. There are no CCFLs or anything else sucking up juice and the GT was connected to it's own dedicated 12v line.

So after tweaking, underclocking, messing with drivers and talking to BFG Customer Support for 2 cards I have come to the conclusion that BFG just makes some poorly designed 6800 GT's. The new versions with the two Blue LED fans are absolute garbage. Go for the ones with the stock heatsink or else. Seems BFG has been having alot of issues and RMAs with this version.

  11. Thanks for your honest answer.

I'm looking at the eVGA model now but they're also out of stock.

I have everything ready to build my new machine, except the main parts, which are the MB (Asus AV8), FX53, and video card. Demand is much higher than Supply at this point. Sheees, these companies could be making a killing if they had more stock on hand.

  13. I have nothing but good things to say about BFG and chumbo. Never one bad experience, both have been really honest and that is hard to find. One thing you can say though, as at least chumbo did not give you the run around like most companies.

just a tip from one watercooler to another. use a single side panel fan at low rpm. there are many transistors and such that still get quite warm in a computer and the slightest breeze from a side fan can kill all the hotspots on mobo/vid/sound/ etc

BFG sucks. Sorry man. They don't even have cards in stock for RMAs. You are lucky you have had a good experience so far. 90% of the people who are buying the new versions of the BFG GT OC with the blue fans are having serious issues. I don't know what it is. Didn't seem to be a heat related issue. Could have been a BIOS issue or just bad cores/ddr. Who knows? Who cares. LOL. I tried two of them and they both sucked and I've heard more about them from others just like myself. STAY AWAY FROM BFG GT OCs!!!

Yea I know. I'm a veteran here. I have a 10,000 BTU Air Conditioner blowing right at the open side of the case. The case temp is like 22C.

    More woes from BFG owners.

P.S. Just got my new eVGA in today with my newest router. :) YAY!

  16. My BFG 6800 Ultra has performed flawlessly since installation.

I've only emailed them once, and they returned my email the next day.

Keeping in mind that there's always someone who's not going to get what they wanted from a product/manufacturer, and that person is likely to be VERY vocal about it, however that doesnt diminish the fact that BFG have a long standing reputation as a solid maker of video cards that perform as good or better than anything anyone else is selling.

[H]ardOCP gave their cards great reviews, and so has every other page I've read.

It sucks to get the bad apple, but we all get one now and then, myself included, but one bad incident does not mean everything is bad about a given product.

My next card will also be from BFG, unless ATI comes out with something better at a better price point.

  17. Sorry about bringing up an old thread. Just wanted to let you know that those BFG Ultra's didn't have any of the problems those BFG GT OC's had. Seems the models with the blue LED fans had some sort of defect, flaw or anomaly. I hope hat BFG fixed them all. My eVGA 6899GT has been running flawlessly at 435Mhz OC'ed for a while now. I'm very happy.

    (defne, Bulgaria)

  18. I'm awaiting my BFG 6800GT OC today and i'll do some testings to see if i have the same issues you are having before. Judging from the post date before your reply, it may be a issue with some batches and i just hope it is fixed now.

I've had only good reports from the 2-week browsing of the forums and the web.
