Just got a Soyo Raptor! This thing is awesome! ( 1 Views )

Just got a Soyo Raptor PSU since my old tiny 200Watt needed to go so I could get a GeForce 6800 GT. The price is pretty amazing too... $59.99 for a 400Watt PSU that has a control panel to allow adjusting of the 3.3V and 5.0V outputs, and has over voltage warning lights. This is a really awesome unit. A perfect PSU for an overclocker. Here's a pic of it in my system
As you can see my HP system is pretty modded lol. :D

That front control panel is pretty nifty...
...but it says nothing about the quality and reliability of the power supply.

Quality..... Soyo.... PSU
Post some readings from it with a multimeter or something... We want to know how it performs so all of us can try to get our little paws on it. :D

If you live around a Microcenter, you could check it out. I could say it goes in par with the True Control Antec 550watt powersupply.

heh, sorry guys. I just installed it like 5 minutes before the picture, meaning I haven't really had much time to really test it. I've read a site that has a complete review, along with a really good system test. I don't have the link off hand, but I'll add it once I find it. Besides, I want to get my 6800 GT installed to really see how this PSU holds up with the extra power draw.
EDIT: From running idle, to running a 3D game (on my old GeForce4 MX), the voltage varies a +/- of around 0.02V, which so far is showing that it's very stable. Excuse me if I'm incorrect with what I'm saying, I just started an electronics course and I have a bit to learn yet. :p

Until there is a real review of it with load testing and osciliscope checked output, I wouldn't trust my system to it.

Good enough of a review for you? :p (Minus the osciliscope)

Nope, it's a terrible review; They used MBM, not even a multimeter, and didn't use a good load method, because there's no way to know how many watts on which rails were being drawn

Oh well, whatever. Don't buy one then, I'll enjoy this PSU all to myself :p Just trying to help people decide if it's a good PSU or not, and obviously I don't know the proper testing procedures, as you do; so you could always do your own search for a adequate review if you wanted to.
Also, what's with the multimeter in the pictures then? Do you mean to use the multimeter in some other way then the author of the review did? Cause he clearly used one to verify all the MBM readings.

Heh, that's what I get for not letting the pictures load over this dial-up! :D all apologies for that, but still if you want to see a good PSU review, learn japanese or head to www.silentpcreview.com/section4.html

It's no problem, I know how dial-up can be ...unfortunately :(
Thanks for the link, I think I'll check that out, rather then learn the japanese :p Maybe I'll learn a few things from reading some reviews around there.
EDIT: Wow, I really see the different between the reviews on the site, and the one I posted. What a difference in thoroughness, and the testing equipment they use. I see what you mean about how the load wasn't really tested properly. Thanks again for the link!

Yeah, i'm really glad Ice Czar brought that site to my attention. There are only a few like it in terms of the quality of the reviews, and they're in Japanese so it looks like we're stuck (in a good way) with Silent Mike
