Using WRT54g as a continuation of my current wireless network? ( 2 Views )

1. I have a WRT54g that is sitting not being used. I also have an Actiontec M1424WR that Verizon gave me with the FiOS package. It is in the basement and the signal on the top floor is quite weak. I was wondering if there were any way to use my WRT54G as a continuation of my current wireless network rather than have it create a new wireless network if I set it up in AP mode (disabling DHCP)

2. Rayman. Linksys repeaters work with linksys routers for some reason. Think they know what is what based off a mac. I have never gotten a linksys to repeat a signal from another ap (of non linksys type). There might be some hacks for this but I doubt it. I think client mode has the same limitation too.

3. Also in the past, using the linksys in repeater mode also met only using wep as security option. they may have fixed this since.
   
   i have a WRT54Gv6 & a WAP54G running in my house. Just using the same ssid. No connectivity issues, always get strong signal from basement to 2nd floor.

4. I'd flash it with DD-WRT v24 and use it in client bridge mode or repeater bridge mode.

5. better yet, flash it w/ Tomato firmware. better than dd-wrt

6. Set it up as a WDS node, pretty easy to follow guide on dd-wrt's wiki or whatever the site is.
