Rambus at it again? ( 3 Views )

no kitty!
  1. saw this link about them starting a "Terabyte Bandwidth Initiative" in which they aim to provide multi-core cpu's up to a terabyte of memory bandwidth.

interesting...and would kick ass if it worked...and wasn't expensive as hell like other rambus crap.

  2. a capacity of bandwidth, not a rate? :p
    also, it's tera.

i wish they would focus on getting dram cell access latency down, not bumping up throughput to useless levels. have they not noticed that doubling the theoretical bandwidth from ddr2 to ddr3 has done SHIT for performance?

  3. man...I dunno WHAT you're talking about with the typos... :p

so what you're saying is there's really no point in going to ddr3 until the latencies come down? Or really no point at all?

  4. no point at all, because they're not worried about access latency. they're worried about useless bandwidth numbers. i should show you some interesting benches comparing single and dual channel ddr2 on a relatively fast dual core K8. it might be funny ;)

  5. I can say for sure when such memory bandwith DID come about, be prepaired to pay a forturne for it!
