My first LCD ( 3 Views )

no kitty!
  1. Yea, I'm kinda late but I was not interested in LCD until recently because the latency. And I didn't really had the choice to take a LCD because all the CRT are only available in used condition.

    So I have a LG l196w 19 widescreen. http://ca.lge.com/en/products/model/...196wtqbf.jhtml

Everybody told me a 60hz LCD does not give any headache. I'm not agree at all with this. My CRT never gave me any headache even after 10 hours in a row of use. It's not the case here. By lowering the brithness and using the ''read'' settings, it is better, but I still think CRT is much more pleasant for my eyes. Anybody feel the same?
The second bad point is about the foot that hold the monitor. This scrap is so cheap, when I type on my keyboard the monitor is always moving. After all review I have read, I never saw anybody speaking about this.
Third thing is about the black. This is A JOKE. In movies, the black is ridiculous. In games, it's even worts. It's like there is not pure black.

The only good things is the size of the monitor. Take almost no space and it's much better for the look. It also start faster than a CRT and it is more easy to setup. I'm also very happy about the widescreen, I LOVE THIS.

So finally I don't know. I think I like LCD. But if I had the choice, I would have take a good quality CRT for sure.

You're not the only one. I 'upgraded' from a 17" CRT to my 20" LCD. I love the widescreen, I love the increased resolution. Back on the CRT I couldn't stand 60Hz refresh because the flickeryness was very noticable and once I changed to 85Hz I just couldn't go back. Fortunately 60Hz on LCD doesn't hurt my eyes nearly as much as 60Hz on CRT, but if 120Hz LCDs became mainstream I'd be happier. Totally agree about black-levels though. It really is bad enough to make me regret the switch from time to time. My monitor also wobbles a tiny amount if I'm typing hard enough, which is extra annoying because it creaks a bit when it wobbles. I wish there was something to hold me over until 20+" OLED screens become affordable.

  3. Well, I'm not a freak than. OLED? I'm not sure if this will ever hit the market... I heard laser monitor may also be a solution....

I can say the quality of the image and the colour is very good on my lcd... But the black really ruin everything
